Re: Face Masks

So your previous quote was from someone who positively quotes Andrew Wakefield, and this one is from someone who according to Wikipedia:

"Blaylock has called the American medical system 'collectivist' and has suggested that health-care reform efforts under President Obama were masterminded by extragovernmental groups that wish to impose euthanasia."

Not sure if this is trolling or stupidity.

again, you haven't presented credible sources.

Ironically, living under a bridge you should be wearing a N95 at least.

And why is it when someone gives an

Re: Face Masks

Just had a funny/ bizarre mask-related incident that confirms they're not great for trapping aerosols, even with a shaped metal nose piece. I just finished off my meal with a tasty orange, and slipped my mask on as I was finishing chewing. (Why was I in such a rush?) I let out a small burp and instantly my eyes were burning because they'd just received a direct blast of acidic orange vapour.

Lesson learned.

Maybe someone called you a troll because your avatar is a poster that says "Mask dodger", and you peddle conspiracy theories from a known anti-vaxer who claims masks reduce oxygen intake and sells "nutritional supplements" to prevent viral illnesses via his website.

An exhalation that reaches your eyes says nothing about how well masks trap or reduce aerosols. The exhaled air has to go somewhere and anyone who wears glasses will confirm a lot of it moves upwards.

BUT the velocity is greatly reduced and the mask will capture much of the initial outpouring from the mouth as it gets deflected therefore the spread is much less.

The article starts "With the advent of the so-called COVID-19 pandemic", which tells me all I need to know about how credible it is.

Are you just trolling, or do you really believe this shite?

Relax, laugh a bit, this line from the technocracy link is great. If cancer has metastasized a mask can kill you due to low oxygen levels in the blood:

Quote:
People with cancer, especially if the cancer has spread, will be at a further risk from prolonged hypoxia as the cancer grows best in a microenvironment that is low in oxygen.
I'd assume the only mask people with advanced cancer wear is an oxygen mask and have free access to morphine. Anyway, never waste the opportunity to tell a surgical mask would be bad for them.

Re: Face Masks

20 years ago during the first SARS outbreak, those that promoted the efficacy of masks in Australia faced fines of up to $22,000. Isn't it amazing how times change?!

Reading this article reminds really does make me think I'm living in a bad dream that I'll awake from soon!

Quote:
NSW Fair Trading Minister Reba Meagher yesterday warned that distributors and traders could be prosecuted if it was suggested the masks offered unrealistic levels of protection from the disease.

"I'm sure everyone would agree that it is un-Australian to profiteer from people's fears and anxieties," Ms Meagher said.

"There appears to be some debate about whether surgical masks are able to minimise the effects of SARS."

Ms Meagher said her department would investigate any complaints about false mask claims which concerned the public.

"Penalties can range from fines of up to $22,000 for an individual or $110,000 for a corporation," she said.

Health authorities have warned that surgical masks may not be an effective protection against the virus.

"Those masks are only effective so long as they are dry," said Professor Yvonne Cossart of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Sydney.

"As soon as they become saturated with the moisture in your breath they stop doing their job and pass on the droplets."

Professor Cossart said that could take as little as 15 or 20 minutes, after which the mask would need to be changed. But those warnings haven't stopped people snapping up the masks, with retailers reporting they are having trouble keeping up with demand.

John Bell from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, who owns a pharmacy in Woollahra, Sydney, said mask supplies were running low.

"At the moment we don't have any because we haven't been able to get any in the last few days," MrBell said. "In the early stages it was unbelievable; we'd get people coming in all the time."

Mr Bell agreed with Professor Cossart's assessment regarding the effectiveness of the masks.

"I think they're of marginal benefit," he said. "In a way they give some comfort to people who think they're doing as much as they can do to prevent the infection."

That seems to be the mentality of travellers to Asian destinations, who are buying and wearing the masks while overseas.

Rosemary Taylor, of Kirribilli, arrived in Sydney from Shanghai last week after a two-week holiday in China. Ms Taylor and travelling companion Joan Switzer had worn the masks during the trip home, even though they had been warned they were of little value.

"We were told you need 16 layers on your mask for it to offer 95per cent protection," Ms Taylor said.

Re: Face Masks

As we hear stories of people going to the police for not wearing face masks correctly, a preprint of a paper has been released yesterday comparing the outcomes in the US between States that mandates masks and those the didn't. According to this paper, masks mandates did not have an effect on Covid spread in the US.
