Medicine prescribed by foreign doctor

Is it possible to get prescription medicine in Switzerland when the prescription is foreign and for a non-Swiss resident?

Re: Medicine prescribed by foreign doctor

So sorry, but your question is far too vague. It depends on the drug, and lots of other factors. Go to a Chemist and ask.

Re: Medicine prescribed by foreign doctor

It's not impossible..
I did it in the first week I was here, UK prescription from a UK doctor.. The staff in the pharmacy had bit of a discussion and head shaking / nodding but gave me the medicine..

Depends on many things, the medicine, can they read the language of the doctor, are they in a good mood etc..

Probably fine for hay fever tablets, not so fine for methadone.

Re: Medicine prescribed by foreign doctor

I've filled a foreign prescription here without a problem. I'm a resident though so they have my name and address on file at the pharmacy, and my name and address were on the prescription. Also the medicine is commonly available here so it wasn't like I was asking for something dodgy.

A friend of mine has also had it done. I guess it'll depend on the discretion of the pharacy/pharmacists. It probably makes sense to ask really nicely and if one says no, it'll make sense to try at another pharmacy.

Re: Medicine prescribed by foreign doctor

It’s been more than 35 years but I had prescriptions filled a few times before I moved here.

It depends, is probably the right answer. Depends what it is for, and depends if you ask nicely.
