What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

I am contemplating a trip to see family in Sweden, that will result in a 10 day quarantine upon return to Switzerland.

I have not been able to find any information as to what the rules of the quarantine is. It seems like the administration is done locally, so the answer may differ depending on Canton. I assume I will not be allowed to go to work, but what about other things? Groceries? Jogging? Biking? Swimming? Hiking? And how is compliance monitored? Will they ring my doorbell at random times? There is apparently a fine of up to CHF 10 000.

Re: What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

The rule is not cantonal or municipal but federal.
If you're in quarantine, you must stay indoors, in your home, at all times, and not see other people.
https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...arantaene.html

The Swiss federal council has urged the population not to take any journeys to any country on "The List" unless there is a very important and urgent reason to do so, i.e. not just to visit family.

Groceries? No.
Jogging? No.
Biking? No.
Swimming? No.
Hiking? No.

The purpose is to protect the others: anyone who might come into contact with your droplets, i.e. not just an empty forest, but those who share a stairwell with you, or a bus, or the door-handle of a building.

If you need help for someone to shop for you, you can try https://www.hilf-jetzt.ch/.

Neighbors.

only partly kidding. The text in German seems to indicate you have to inform the local authorities?

Rough translation:
Quote:
Anyone who is obliged to go into quarantine under this regulation must report entry within two days to the competent cantonal authority and follow the instructions of this authority.
Edit - Here's the German:
Quote:

Re: What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

In that ordnance:

alloggio adeguato immediatamente dopo l’entrata.
Art. 2 Quarantine for persons entering Switzerland
Persons entering Switzerland, who have at any time
within 14 days prior to entering Switzerland, been in a state or territory with high
risk of infection with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus (state or area with
increased risk of infection) are obliged, immediately upon arrival [in Switzerland] to travel on the most direct route to their home or another suitable accommodation. Such persons must, for 10 days after entry [into Switzeralnd], remain at that accommodation at all times (quarantine).
The German text reads "ständig", which means always or continuously.
The French reads "en permanence", as in permanently, but also meaning without interruption.
And that's what the Italian text says, too: "ininterrottamente".

In other words: Just Stay At Home, for the entire 10 days, with no going out at all.

Or: if avoidable, don't travel to any of the countries on The List, in the first place.

Re: What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

TBH, I'm already feeling safer. This is how Ou stop the spread.

My family in Canada had to undergo 14-days with a much higher fine (500'000 cad) for non compliance. I had some relatives move back to Canada from the US because of what's going on. The logistics were difficult. They couldn't share a car, go grocery shopping or use public transport. They essentially had to have someone bring a rented car to the airport preloaded with groceries and drive straight to an Airbnb-rented house for two weeks. Everyone understands these precautions.

Re: What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

Any idea how quarantine regs would affect people who live with someone who has traveled?

For instance, what do you think this means for people living in WGs? Would the flat mates who have not traveled also be required to quarantine, even if they could somehow split the flat to isolate the traveler?

(A couple of young'uns I know are worried, as they can't control what their flat mates do.)

In other countries, they have to go to a hotel or rent a place for the quarantine period. There is a fine here, so I would hope the regulations are the same. Better pay for a place rather than the fine.

If you live with others in the same household but not with the person who has fallen ill
• Stay in your room and keep the door closed. Eat your meals by yourself in your room.
• Avoid all contact with others and only leave your room if necessary.
• Keep a distance of two metres from other people when you have to leave your room.
• Wash your hands regularly.
• Use your own bathroom. If this is not possible, clean all amenities (shower, toilet, washbasin) after
each use with a standard household cleaning product.
• Do not share household items such as crockery, glasses, cups or kitchen utensils with other people. Wash these items after use in the dishwasher or thoroughly by hand, using washing-up liquid.
• Do not share towels or bed linen with other people. Wash your clothes, bed linen and towels regularly in a washing machine

I can almost guarantee that. Particularly as we are now entering the second wave. If they are too busy, I’ll volunteer to help them.

Re: What am I allowed to do if quarantined in Switzerland?

Well, found this in French:

Quote:

https://www.bag.admin.ch/dam/bag/fr/...antaine_FR.pdf

So, cantonal authorities are responsible of implementing the quarantine. I think we'll know later today or over the weekend what are the rules per canton.

When I return to CH on August, I think I'll just ask at the airport who should I contact in Aargau and that's it.

Does not always work so well as planned.
Victoria, Australia has experienced a fresh outbreak of coronavirus cases in recent weeks, prompting authorities to impose a fresh lockdown in parts of Melbourne.

National broadcaster ABC reported 31 cases have been linked to Melbourne's Stamford Plaza hotel, while other infections have been linked to the Rydges on Swanston hotel, which is also in the state capital.

Allegations are the outbreak in the state of Victoria was sparked by some contracted workers not following protocols at a hotel used to quarantine international arrivals -- including reportedly having sex with people under lockdown.

Well, I would hope that you are decent human being who understands the risk you would potentially put others in by not following the strict rules of quarantine. So that question is hopefully moot.

If you are a selfish idiot who only responds to the threat of fines or legal action, then I really don't know what to say to you.

There is a 10,000 CHF fine for not adhering to quarantine rules. In addition, there are people who are checking on you. They will also call your home everyday to check on you.

Stay home people, be smart. If we stay healthy, there will be years ahead for trips to Sweden and wherever you wish.

I heard today but have not confirmed - if you take a trip somewhere and have to quarantine upon return, your employer is not obligated to pay you while you stay home. You can take vacation or unpaid leave, or if you were already working from home I guess you can do that too.

Something for folks to keep in mind if you have the type of job where you can't work from home.

The reasoning behind this is that, as an employee, you have a duty towards the employer to get to work and do your work, and this includes conducting yourself, in your free-time, in a manner that will permit your full participation at work. That includes such things as not getting so drunk that you'll still be under the influence when next at work, and getting enough sleep so you can concentrate. As an employee, one also has a duty towards all the other employees at work.

Therefore, choosing to engage in high-risk activity (such as travelling to a country with a high infection rate) could be regarded as a failure to exercise one's proper duty to one's employer and colleagues.
