I felt to the ground from the bike, several Skin abrasions, what is the right way

Hi all:

I felt to the ground from the bike and several Skin abrasions on my hands and legs, some of them has soils inside and I just use water to wash them. What is the best practice here to deal with such wounds?

Although I pay for insurance for several years, I seldom use it. My insurance model is tele- model, which means that I need to make a phone call first. I am afraid if we wait for several days before we can see the doctor (that is what normally happens here), the wounds may already recover.

I’m not sure what your problem is exactly.

Do you need stitches? Do you think you might have broken something?

If not, I’m not sure what a doctor could do for you. Wash the wounds with clear water, disinfect them and cover them with clean bandages is the way to go.

That being said, your insurance mode doesn’t apply to emergencies. If you require urgent care, you can go to any A&E without calling first.

If you fell from the bike, this was an accident. If you are employed, this is covered by your employer's insurance (Nichtbetriebs-Unfallversicherung) and not by your health insurance. In cases of urgency/emergency, you can always go see a doctor.

Hope, you get well soon!

Ask your parents or a nearby adult.

This is an accident. OP's health insurance model doesn't matter at all.
Either OP is insured for accident by their employer or has an addition in the health-insurance (not underlying the health-model rules).

Apart from that - I agree, clean it out and suck it up.

It is still possible to go see a doctor later should more problems show.

thanks for your information. I do work here and have accident insurance. What is the difference between using my own medical insurance and the accidental insurance? is it just sending the bill to different companies?

thanks

Re: I felt to the ground from the bike, several Skin abrasions, what is the right way

Accidents and illnesses are two separate worlds, here.
  • Your medical insurance is compulsory, and it is for illnesses.
  • Your employer must, by law, insure you against the consequences of accidents (including any medical treatment needed as a result of the accident). If you work for less than 8 hours per week, then you are insured only for so-called "work" accidents. From 8 hours, you're also insured for accidents in your free-time. (Edit: Those who are not employed at all must buy an extra "accident" module from their medical insurance company.)

Because you have bought telmed medical insurance, you always have to call your telmed number first, before you go and see a medical professional about an illness.

If you get any treatment because of the accident, be sure to get an "accident number". Sometimes this is issued by the medical professional attending to you, sometimes by the accident insurance company (and you reach them through your employer).

Emergencies - both accidents and illnesses - are always covered. They figure it out, afterwards, which insurance is responsible.

Have a bath and really soak them till the soil is out. Spray with Merfen and put plaster on if necessary. Or put Flammazine creme on if they look nasty

Growing up in Holland I have a lot of experience with this.

You have your mama put a kiss on it. And if you have a hole in your trousers, she can sow on a colorfull patch that you can show your friends..

No. You can get the treatment first, whatever is required, including turning up at a hospital Accident/Emergency centre if you feel it's warranted. You tell them who your employer (or insurer if you're not employed) is and they send the bill directly to them. At no point do you need to pay anything.

Afterwards you will need to notify your employer of the fact, and they'll give you a claim number which can then be used for all further treatment, and will include, if necessary, any medications prescribed, such that the pharmacy will also bill them direct to the insurer.

Your health insurance refuses to pay for accidents.

Re: I felt to the ground from the bike, several Skin abrasions, what is the right way

Falling off a bike is clearly an accident and covered by your accident insurance. If you are working (I believe more than 8 hours per week), your employer will have contracted the accident insurance for you, so contact them to have the accident declared, usually the HR department.
It's generally a good thing to claim under the accident insurance, as there is no deductible (franchise or 10%). However, the treatment and where you get treated are all the same.
If you aren't working, the accident insurance will be tagged on to your normal medical insurance (about 30-35 CHF per month) and you will be liable for deductibles.
