Re: Sportclinic, Schulthess-klinik what next?

Hi OP,

I have not read all the responses, just your post.

I have had several different issues from hip injury, knee problems and neck pain problems, over the course of 7 years or so. (not all of them at once)

I too, run/train a lot and my first problems were knee issues. First chiro/physio solved the issue. Then I had a hip injury twice. Kept going to the same place and hardly got better. So my doc sent me to another physio. After 3 months I could run again, incredible!

So then the terrible neck pain started and I had gone to the Schulthess Klinik a few years back, where they told me on the MRI, I had issues between the C4/5 (or C5/6 I forgot ). Late last year went back to them and was told I need surgery. Wasn't keen on it as it is the neck area.... Went to a second opinion at Hirschlanden where the doc told me a definite NO to surgery. That I definitely did not need it yet!

He referred me to another physio, which also has a medical doc. Been going there for 5 months, and the pain has gotten so much better! Really happy that I did not go with the surgery...

Not saying that this place can miraculously solve your issues, but since my experience was so good, maybe worth a try? Let me know if you want details.
I agree with this, get more than one opinion. And don't necessarily stop exercising, its harder exercise that makes the body build muscle that then protects it.

Don't expect much from anything off the shelf. Glucosamine, turmeric and all those don't really have much of a record of widespread success. Surgery if its knees over 40 gets a lot less successful.

you might fix it, but if you've had it for a year, it might be better just to live with it and carry on because it has a fair chance it won't go away now.

This might not be as positive an outlook as you want - better to have 'I did X and now i feel great', but this often doesnt happen in life, so you're better having a positive mentality about it and striding on. I have an state of permanent pain except when asleep and like yourself i searched high and low for miracle or amazing medical cures and in the end, the best approach i have found is to understand that this is how I am now, so reset the bar to this level and live life happily from this point forward.

Dr Zenhäusern is a busy guy, so Dr Pfisterer saw me mainly but he was good as well. The surgeon I saw for my second opinion at Hirschlanden said "Dr Zenhäusern is a tough man, but he is GOOD" and I agree with him. Do try to get an appointment with him if you can and my best wishes!

If you're still struggling with this issue, why don't you try a vibration gun massager (such as Hypervolt or Theragun)? In addition, I found this extremely useful and easy to use: https://rollrecovery.com/product/r8-new/

For me they worked perfectly and helped loosen my IT band and muscles.

Re: Sportclinic, Schulthess-klinik what next?

Have not read all the answers but a couple of things I would try as someone who had plenty of orthopedic issues:

- sports medicine (Schulthess also has is)
- cold laser
- castor or emu oil (I like the touch of emu better and I recommend wraps) and horsechesnut based creams great for stiffness (oils more for tendons and horsechesnut for muscles)
- vinegar or epsom soaks

As some mentioned I find there's a huge difference between physiotherapists (some really understood and helped, some ok, some had idiotic suggestions looking backwards)
