It's funny - I had always imagined you were a man. Dunno why.
It seems to be a standard assumption on this forum and others that all mods are guys. Except MC, because her name implies she's not a guy.

If youíre not Swiss it had nothing to do with the Swiss. You would need to change your name with the US authorities, get a new passport, then take your passport & documentation and get a new permit etc in Switzerland.
I have since found out that this isnít really true. I changed my name to my married name with the US embassy and went to renew my Permis B with my new American passport. I was immediately told that unless I had also changed my name with the local …tat Civil office, I would be getting my new Permis B under my old name. So I still have to go through the swiss office and pay a small fortune to change my name. This could of course vary by canton.

indeed your entry in the civil register drives the name on your permit. The permit office cannot therefore change your name if you already have a permit.

One would have thought this would have occurred to me, but no. Embarrassing, lighter in the pocket, but no worse for the wear. What a pain name changes are though.

Do you have a job? Changing your name in the real world is easier than changing it in a company. I still see my old name (nť) in some systems and in my login to Skype mobile.

Yes, I teach and Iím at uni. Plus all the cards, permits and bank accounts in two countries. Not that thereís a time pressure or anything, itís just more paperwork than I had honestly anticipated.
