Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

My GP's practice does not know when they will have the vaccine, best guess is mid-November.

(I think I'll look for a pharmacy offering the vax.)

In today’s news a shortage of the vaccine has been announced. Less than half of the 2.5 million doses ordered are expected to be delivered. Rationing is expected.

20 Min article on an expected shortage:
https://www.20min.ch/story/die-schwe...f-559834789374

According to the article, despite the earlier BAG goal of vaccinating twice as many people against the flu this year, Switzerland did not receive any more vaccine doses than in usual years. As supplies have already been allocated across Europe, a spokesperson for GlaxoSmithKline said there are no additional doses available to be delivered to Switzerland. Philippe Luchsinger, of the Hausärzte Schweiz association, says that people in risk groups will be vaccinated first, others only if sufficient supplies are available.

Apparently experts are hoping that the hygiene measures we have all been following will help to prevent a wave of flu infections this year.

---

Oh wait, most people around here refuse to follow hygiene measures.

This does not bode well.

Wait... no... do you mean that health associations and doctors in Switzerland don't need the younger and more healthy people to actively waive their right to a flu jab, in order for them to effectively distribute it to high risk groups? Wow, someone please tell HickvonFrick and BelgianMum before they run screaming down to the nearest clinic to explain their detailed plans for how their noble sacrifice will change the course of the flu season!

Strange. Vaccine manufacturers are working hard to produce huge amounts of extra doses. Some have already made the first batch of additional stock. Source: my OH makes them. Mind you, don't think they supply CH.

Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

Saw my Doctor today who offered her perfuse apologies but everything is a couple of weeks delayed. She was (fairly) certain they would have a supply from 2 November and has given me a ‘bon’ for an injection.

Another trip into Geneva ...

Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

Just talked to my pharmacist and she recommended I book an appointment next week for the flu shot. Their appointment book was quite full already.

Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

My husband and I just had a flu shot today in a local Chemists. Cost was CHF 78 for the pair of us. I have one every year as I have had flu which resulted in me being hospitalised as it caused a chest infection ... that was a couple of years ago or I would have been wondering ...

I was isolated in hospital and no one could enter my room unless they were totally gowned and masked up. Obviously a familiar sight these days but it wasn't then and neither was it a particularly pleasant experience and certainly not one I would be rushing to repeat.

Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

I got the jab today at my Dr.s office in Geneva. Her office is just on the edge of the red light district of said fair city. When I walked both ways to/from the station I was pleased to observe that all the ladies were wearing their masks properly, none of this below the nose or worse, below the chin nonsense.

Bravo!

We're on a waiting list at our local Apotheke, they ran out in the first week but said they're getting another supply this month.

There will not be any flu season this year. So nothing to worry about.
Southern hemisphere , which is predictor of our flu pandemic have seen their flu numbers reduced by 99%. Thank Covid for that.

Re: 2020/21 Flu Vaccine availability.

Here in Geneva not all pharmacies had it but me and my wife got one last week. My son also got his from the Pediatrician.

My company was limiting the number of people to vaccinate (usually is everyone who asks) but since then they say they have received more doses.

Rather thank distancing, hand-washing and masks for that.

Not sure about the masks but better hand hygiene all round would probably lower flu counts every year.
