Re: Middle / second given names

Give 'me a middle name. I work in a school and see that most students have two given names at least - some have three, four, or even five (in one case among the more than 200 kids I've taught here).
It also gives them an option if they don't like their first given name - everyone knew my grandfather by a contraction of his middle name (Jim), not his first name.

Re: Middle / second given names

I do not have a middle name and often feel odd when filling out forms, especially Canadian ones. My mom said they did not give me one because my sister had none, so it would have been unfair. I wish I had one. So my advice is to give your child a middle name, even if you don't use it much. It also gives them an option if they don't like their first name.

... so what was your mum's reason for not giving a middle name to your sister?

Re: Middle / second given names

I come from a place of no middle names and always liked them. It sounds majestic. So I gave my child a middle name. It never gets used here, though. Students tell me which name they want to be adressed by, I like the fact that they have a choice. I was supposed to be called Stephen or Antonin.
