It's very difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist here in Switzerland. Apparently, COVID has exacerbated the situation as many people are seeking help. Does your friend have a good insurance? Some companies offer very good services in English, like CSS. You can call them and ask for their recommendations. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I personally looked for one last year and know how incredibly difficult it is. Your friend might have to call several places or even consider Geneva as there are more doctors and English speaking ones.

If he chooses a doctor in Geneva, then he has to make sure that he has complimentary insurance to allow him to see someone outside his canton of residence. The good news is: it is now the time of the year to change insurance. If he doesn't have one yet, he can add a policy for next year and it will take effect from 1 Jan, 2021.

Does he have a GP yet? Sometimes they can get people referred more quickly than you trying to get an appointment yourself.

If it's an existing condition he may not be able to get any complimentary insurance.

Normally it isn't difficult to get an outpatient complimentary insurance. It's quite cheap too. Around 12 CHF every month. Prices can vary depend on your provider.
