| | Covid plasma donation
Hi,
I heard that in some countries they people who had covid donate plasma. They use it for research and to treat infected patients. I had covid recently and am wondering if there is anything I can do to help?

Saw that in order to donate plasma one has to be male & meet the standard donation requirements.

Not sure - but if you are British and/or lived in the UK in the 80s- you are not allowed to give blood here.

Is that the same for plasma?

It's not like there's any real evidence to suggest that UK blood is unsafe, so they can't very well explain how the process of separating plasma is magically going to get rid of all the non-existent contaminants in whole blood.

Interesting, if I catch the thing I'll consider donating blood.
@OP, what I got from a quick read of the link posted by Sigh is you need to wait 4 weeks since the symptoms of the illness ended.

"The reason for this is that due to pregnancy women
naturally produce antibodies against tissue characteristics (HLA properties). If such HLA antibodies are transfused into the patient, life-
threatening complications of the lungs (TRALI) can arise. Therefore, for security reasons
COVID patients whose lungs have already been attacked by the COVID virus will only recieve male plasma."
