Re: Eczema cream?

A follow-up eczema related question, can you have normal looking healthy skin with no itchiness but overnight you wake up with 4 patches on your body similar to this image that I found online (more red maybe!). One on my chest, one on my leg, one on my back and one under my arm. All on the left side of the body only! Coincidence?

I wonder if I had/have Covid and my body's immune system is playing up? I have never in my life had anything like this, let alone from one day to the next!!!!

No fever or illness. My blood oxygen level is 99%.

Please check the web for Herpes Zoster (from the same family than Varicella). It appears sporadically, in one side of the body, and the look of the lesions are similar to those ones.
Herpes outbreaks gets triggered when the immune system is depressed and goes into remission 'cleared' by the own immune system. If you want to know if you had CoVid, a 15 min antigen test will be able to answer that question, but not sure if they are willingly available in this country.

Doesn't really look like eczema to me. Any chance you are allergic to your bedding - is it feathers?

Interesting, I did have chickenpox as a kid. Herpes or cold sore on the mouth never in my life.

No, the bedding is a few years old and washed every week.

Hmmm, there does not seem to be any magic sure for it from my initial research. I am worried about catching Covid at the GP. I wait another 1-2 days to observe if it gets better

Agree it is likely Herpes zoster (also known as shingles), especially given that it is localized to one side of the body. It can become really painful, so best see a doctor to get some meds asap. The sooner you start anti-virals the better, would not recommend waiting a few days.

If you’re over 50, you’re at higher risk of shingles and Swiss doctors do not encourage the shingles vax.

Re: Eczema cream?

Thinking shingles too - so you need to see a doctor asap.

But as said before, many people who have, or have had Covid have suffered from all sorts of skin lesions and rashes.

There is a lot of info about shingles on the Internet- and about possible contagion, athough it is complicated. Honestly, you should go to GP.

Just showed OH, he said shingles only affects one area at a time and is not spread on several parts of body. But it looks likes an infection of the skin and should be treated with antibiotics. Check your temperature too. He gave me several possibilities, none of them I could spell !

Have you changed your washing liquid/powder?

Re: Eczema cream?

I have no pain as such, it just feels tickly. The one under the armpit feels hotter as it rubs more. Just now I applied Zovirax cream on all of them. Off to Apotheke to see what else I can get. GP closed until 1pm, will try to get appointment asap! Will ask for Covid test too.

I am under 50, for now anyway

None of these match though, could it be because I am at Eruptive stage only? Assuming it is Shingles!

One can get shingles earlier than 50. A buddy had it in her face, zero pain. Tingly! Courage, TTYL, see a doctor. Maybe some B12 and a lot of sleep to boost your immune system, too. Denner sells little bottles of B12, works for me.

Re: Eczema cream?

As said above, rash in ONE area, wherease here we have several areas involved- hence probably not shingles.

The concern is that it is not the first episode of such, so if there is an underlying, ongoing infection, for whatever reason- it must not be self-treated- or treated via an internet Forum.

If something like that comes up over night, first thing to list is "what's different"?
What did I eat/drink (plus that I usually don't)?, new sheets? freshly washed sheets? New detergent? Windows open all day - bugs coming into the bed? Could the cat/dog have been somewhere funny?
It can be the weirdest, smallest thing and it's definitely a reaction.

My skin reacts to "God and the world" as we say = unpredictably anything and most times a big show. Most these things are not allergies but intolerance, there is a medical difference in there.

For me it's usually Savlon (made by Novartis, not available in Switzerland ) for a few days. If it stays on - GP.
Most intolerances are not found out, can only be treated, hoping it won't repeat.

Of course they can. It‘s just that the risk is higher as you age. Like many things.

UPDATE

Thanks everyone. Since I last posted, I have been running around like a headless chicken. My GP had no free slots, but he spoke directly with me and said that I need to get it checked asap, like NOW!

I then phoned lot of docs for an appointment and after many rejections I finally got it checked. One look and Doc knew what I had

Confirmed Gürtelrose (Herpes Zoster)

He explained that Chickenpox never really goes away, the immune system just keeps it suppressed. If stress etc reduces the strength of the immune system then this happens.

Got 2 meds to take for next 7 days-

Pregabalin Capsule 75mg, 2 x Per day (Neurological drug)
Brivudinum tablet 125mg, 1 x Per day (Anti Viral)

Did not get any cream though? Keep using eczema cream?

Doc did not think I have COVID-19, but I insisted and got a Covid test done too, NEGATIVE

What are the chances that I had Covid many months ago, and it messed or is still messing with my immune system?

Re: Eczema cream?

Sorry to hear it is in fact Herpes, but I am really glad you didn't delay in getting a diagnosis. An extra day's delay before starting anti-viral meds could lead to a much worse outcome.

Fingers crossed that catching it early and starting meds asap leads to a quick recovery.

Don’t put anything on the spots at all. Leave them alone and let them dry up naturally.

Re: Eczema cream?

Apparently the first 72 hours are important. I went after 24hrs

"After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles."

Makes sense

Well it is either-

a) I don't have Shingles and Doc misdiagnosed it.
b) I am hard as nails and my pain threshold is high.
c) Maybe the pain part is yet to come?
d) Maybe I have a mild version/attack?

The under armpit one burns a bit but the others not.

Have not had shingles myself, but one of my besties who had it a few years ago began with painless blisters on one side of the body. They did not immediately seek medical treatment, which was probably a mistake. The pain and fever came afterwards, and lasted a long time.

This is why early antiviral intervention is so important.
