Re: Covid Vaccine: Will you get it?

I expect Canada is preparing inoculation centres all along their 8,891km border with the US. They are scheduled to open 21 January.

If Trump can’t solve the problem Trudeau certainly can.

The death rate seems to be settling just below 1%
Where's that? In Switzerland, I make it around 1.6%; 1.9% in the US, and nearly 2.3% globally. (Worldometer)

Joking? You mean, the day after Biden takes over at the top?

If not, I wonder why Canada is taking a month and a half to start vaccinating, as the Pfizer vaccine is already approved there.

The vaccine will not be mandatory. According to Le News it will be free to the consumer (Cost shared among Federal; Cantonal governments and Health Insurance companies). Consumers might have a 5f participation charge.

But expect governments, including Switzerland, to soon impose a vaccine requirement on Visitors to their country. So travelling (outside Schengen) will become difficult without having had one. Airlines and other transport will likely require vaccines.

Not compulsory but you will have to be a hermit to avoid them without medical reasons.
Airlines will be doing anything to get customers......... not restricting access to a service very few want to use.

Not really Joking, but speculating. Love is not lost between Trump and Trudeau. I expect Canada will begin immunising their residents immediately. If they decide to help their southern cousins will be for the future.

1) Vaccination mandatory or not?
2) Should hospitals and nursing homes requires all patients and staff to be vaccinated?
3) How will insurance premiums change for those who don't vaccinate?
4) Will proof of vaccination be required to travel?
Late seeing this thread.
1. Can't be mandatory as there are legitimate, medical exclusions.
2. Again, can't be mandatory, but if vast majority do, it will be hugely beneficial. We shall see...
3. As the vaccines will be free, will this info be fed back to the insurance companies at all?
4. Probably but this isn't new for travel. It will just be more wide spread that previously, and even then, only for a few years (hoefully).

1. It can, with legitimate medical exclusions.
2. See 1. (But yes).
3. We'll pay. Either through taxes, or premiums. But we'll pay!
4. Yep.

Restricting access to vaccinated-only is likely to increase the number of customers. I will definitely choose such an airline over competitors.

But I didn’t mention the airlines, this will be driven by governments. If a country can reduce the spread of the virus from inbound travellers it will do so.

And frankly the airlines will welcome it. Reducing the likelihood of the virus spreading makes people willing to travel. If you had your choice of getting on a plane knowing that everyone had had the vaccine, or getting on one where only some of the people had had it. Which would you choose?

Well, despite your ignorance I hope that your kids, for their sake, were given the minimum standard vaccines/innoculations that all kids should get.

I know his English is pretty poor but from my understanding of his post they didn’t.
Unless there is a valid medical reason for not being vaccinated it is totally irresponsible to not vaccinate children.

Which product?
I don’t believe we know which products will be offered. I suppose the choice will be between mRNA versus a more traditional vaccine.

What's this ? - the British scientists responsible for Oxford-AstraZeneca are going into partnership

According to this British and Russian scientists are teaming up to trial a combination of the Oxford-AstraZeneca

Sounds reasonable. I understand that Oxford has no spaceship launch facilities, and the Russians mistakenly believe that Oxford's close and enduring relationship with the Isis may give them some sort of tactical advantage if they team up with the Oxonians.

Increase by those who care. However those who don't may chose differently. So maybe there's going to be a bifurcation.

I thanked your post because I understand your point of view. But I believe you are missing a really important piece of information.

Yes, you're far more likely to contract diseases than those who are not vaccinated. But much more troubling is that those in the community who (due to allergies, a suppressed immune system, or perhaps some debilitating condition) can't be vaccinated -- even if they wanted to be, as almost all of them do -- are put at great risk by relatively healthy, unvaccinated people who may contract and spread the disease. You may well get over the disease quickly and easily, but while you have it, you are contagious and you may spread it to others who are not vaccinated.

The purpose of getting vaccinated is firstly to protect the individual who is vaccinated, and secondly, if enough people are vaccinated, to achieve "herd immunity". To put it in simplified terms, this means that it becomes very difficult for the disease to be passed on by an infected person, because most people that the ill person comes into contact with are immune through vaccination and the disease can't be passed to them. As a result, the disease dies out. That's how smallpox was eradicated from the world, and polio is close to being eradicated.

Depending on the disease, up to 90% of the population may need to be vaccinated (or otherwise be immune) to achieve herd immunity. Without herd immunity, those who are not immune remain at risk and those who cannot be vaccinated can do nothing to avoid catching the disease, except isolating themselves from everyone else.

So if you are healthy and could easily be vaccinated, it's really quite selfish not to be. You are relying on everybody else to get vaccinated so that you are protected through herd immunity. Even if you're not concerned about catching certain diseases, you are unwittingly exposing others to those diseases by not making yourself immune to them. You're putting not only yourself at risk of catching a disease which may be not much more than a minor irritant for you or your children, but also those in the community who are much weaker than you and could catch the disease from you, but with devastating consequences for them -- even death. COVID-19 is a great example of such a disease. So is measles.

If you and your children can be vaccinated against the major diseases, please do it, not just for your sake but also to protect others in the community.

Don't use your parents as benchmarks of ignorance because they were raised in far less scientifically and medically enlightened times. The science is now there for you to read and you are ignoring it and putting your children's lives at risk. That makes you both ignorant AND a bad parent (in this context) because you are consciously and purposefully making the wrong decisions for their health based on your own fears and lack of knowledge. I really feel sorry for them as they will be exposed to diseases that they simply should not be exposed to.

I really hope one day its illegal not to vaccinate your children in order to compensate for medically neglectful parents like yourself.
