Will people never learn?
It seems not.

Unfortunately the black community seem to have particularly poor takeup and this is the distressing result.

Re: Covid Vaccine: Will you get it?

There is reason why the black inner city vaccine uptake in the US is so low.

The Tuskeegee Syphilis experiment remains embedded among the urban black populace:

To be honest that's a pretty poor excuse. Especially for the black community in the UK (which they article is concerned with). I'd be amazed if anything other than a small minority even in the US inner cities have heard of a study that started 90 years ago in a rural backwater flyover state.

It is prevalent in black urban communities. Call it urban myth/legend but it exists live and well...:

Re: Covid Vaccine: Will you get it?

My nephew is currently employed by "Teach for America" which, as background, sends well educated graduates to urban and rural areas with poor school systems to teach.

In short, he refuses to get vaccinated (granted he is in his early 20s) and tells his Mom (my sister) what his students tell him...namely, you cannot trust vaccines - especially when government does the hard sell. Sad but true...

I can’t speak to the UK, but it is well known in the US. The study is really deplorable. It is motivation for ethics training in the US if you intend to do any research with human participants. Not just Tuskeegee, but several years ago, a journalist wrote a book about Henrietta Lacks, the source of HeLa cells which have been instrumental in cancer and hematology research, and Oprah Winfrey produced the film version. The book was fascinating and disheartening…and together with Tuskeegee and probably some embellishment have helped raise distrust of establishment medical research in the US by some black communities,

It seems White, Hispanic and Black communities distrust the established medical research on the US. Wonder why Whites and Hispanics are not considered as disadavantaged populations.

So only the Asians are not a disadvantaged population? Of course the non-LGBTQ+-Asians

Don't forget Asian women. So, the only not disdvantaged are the heterosexual Asian men. The rest need some kind affirmative action for the vaccine intake.
