In a drugstore or a chemists, or in larger Migros or Coop stores, or even at Aldi for some basic supplements.

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

Another recommendation for iherb. They just lowered their international flat rate prices. Much, much cheaper than buying here, unfortunately. In case you're interested: enter HUV838 for a $5.00 discount on a first-time order.

I have used www.versandapo.de The shipping costs are 8Euro. I ordered on Tuesday, so lets see.

When you buy vitamins from overseas, I assume you’ll pay the admin and tax charges when the parcels arrive when the value is over 60 Francs right?

value of goods + shipping costs over 60, yes. Not just value of goods.

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

Ok, but Switzerland generally allows vitamins to be imported? What about non-prescription medicines , essential oils?

Sorry, that's where I am out of answers and would have to do some google searching same as you.

I know the rough max value before tax kicks in, and I've seen that you can only import a 30-day supply. As to what's restricted I don't know. I presume if it's something that requires a doctor's script here you can't just order online. For example I wanted some vitamin K and the pharmacy said I need a prescription for it.

Edit to add - When you order online you run into the 60 (maybe it's 62?) CHF limit, but if you're traveling and bringing items with you (such as you're flying back from the UK or driving over from France) then the duty-free limit is 300.

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

Unless I am mistaking, the order limit (for not paying taxes) for nutritional supplements is around CHF 200.- not CHF 62.
I order overseas regularly over 62.- and never had it taxed.

That's correct. The limit is CHF 200 (including postage) for supplements. Places like iHerb understand this and apply it automatically if you select the 'prepay tax' option.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I'm not sure it's true given that there are Swiss supplement vendors who offer K2. E.g.:

https://www.kingnature.ch/en/produkt/vitamin-k2-vida/

Here's an alternative from a US supplier (and tax free up to CHF 200):

https://www.iherb.com/pr/Life-Extens...Softgels/78402

Last edited by speakeron; 09.04.2018 at 18:47. Reason: The Life Extension K isn't 'better' than the King Nature one; it just has a different mix.

Cool, I stand corrected. I thought the 200 limit was for books only.

Thanks also for the iherb link.

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

Very strange. I received an express post package from Australia today and Swiss Post issued a tax exemption. The declared value was the real value which was 101 Australian dollars and the postage was about 55. On the package it says “skin care and milk powder” (there is a bottle of pregnancy vitamins in the box though)

I wonder why they didn’t tax this package since it’s clearly over 62 CHF..

Anybody ordered from Vitacost recently? Does it still has to be below 200frs to not pay customs? Or do they deal with the tax/customs?

So I can order books and supplements from abroad till 200 CHF (including delivery) without tax.

Any other goods? For example, Osprey's backpack for 100 CHF will be taxable?

Thanks

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

The rules are:
Import VAT is not levied if it is less than CHF 5.
Duty is not levied of it is less than CHF 5.

The follwing goods which can be imported by private persons have a VAT rate of 2.5 % (Which translates into the mentioned CHF 200 threshold have):
  • foodstuffs under the Foodstuffs Act of 20 June 20144, with the exception of alcoholic beverages,
  • cattle, poultry, fish,
  • grains,
  • seeds, planting roots and bulbs, living plants, cuttings, scions and cut flowers and branches, including those used in arrangements bouquets, wreaths, etc.; if invoiced separately, the supply of these goods is also subject to the reduced tax rate, even if it is made in combination with a supply taxable at the standard rate,
  • animal feed, silage acids, scatterings for animals,
  • fertilisers, pesticides, mulch and other vegetation used as covering material,
  • medication,
  • newspapers, magazines, books and other printed matter without advertising character of the kinds to be stipulated by the Federal Council;

Duty is mostly only relevant if you import from the USA (*). Goods from most other countries are duty free. Exception are agriculture products such as honey where you might pay duty if you import more than 13 kg. On the other hand vitamins are duty free from any country.
https://xtares.admin.ch/

(*) Country of manufacturing. But often it is simplified to country from where the stuff is shipped.

Re: Where to buy vitamins in Switzerland?

EDITED - Turned out that you can not use ÅÄÖ. You must change letters from Ä to A, for example. I place a big order now so we will see if it reaches me....

I tried to order from Iherb.com, but at the shipping details it said "your address contains letters or symbols not supported by the selected shipping service"
For both DHL and Swiss post.
Have you come across this before? Is it ÅÄÖ that the shipping services do not support?
Any good alternatives to Iherb.com out there? for ordering vitamins from abroad?
(I want D-vitamins, Zinc and Quercetin in higher proportions than the Swiss standards)
