Leaving the Uk to live in Switzerland as a single parent

Hi my name is susa and Iím a single parent living in the Uk. I have previously escaped my family because of honour based violence in 2019. But now my family knows where iam and they will try to come and find me. I wanted to leave the country and start fresh somewhere else because as long as Iím living in the Uk, they will still be looking for me. I am an Irish citizen and my kids are british nationality. I was recommended Switzerland but I just donít know anything about the system there. Could someone kindly message me or call me or something just so I can get some advice and information about what to expect.
Thanks a lot xx

Your first obstacle here if you don't have anything to stand on is going to be the language. There are three primary languages, Swiss-German (related to German, but most Germans can't understand it), French and Italian. Whilst many people speak English, you can't expect people to do so. The larger towns are fairly cosmopolitan (Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva), but out in the country it's largely a different story.
Covid has made finding a job tricky. On top of that EU nationals have a right to residence in Switzerland if they have a job only. Support of any kind from the state is at the lower end of the spectrum. People are expected to be self-sufficient, that when push comes to shove, help is available.
You say you're an Irish national. Wouldn't Ireland be a more natural place for you to go?

You shouldn't plan to move to Switzerland without establishing a job here first. It's extremely expensive, and particularly with the language barrier it takes time to learn the system. Switzerland operates more as regulated privatisation as opposed to socialism as well, so things like acquiring health insurance here are not just automatic. They require investigation and paperwork. It would not be easy to get social assistance just showing up without having worked in Switzerland, in fact, they probably wouldn't issue a residence permit without evidence of employment unless through a pathway like asylum-seeking. Schooling could also present challenges if your children don't speak any German, French, or Italian.

Post-Brexit, immigration from the UK to Switzerland is more limited, but that presumably wouldn't affect you as an Irish national.

Particularly as a single parent, which is hard enough somewhere you speak the language, I would recommend considering an English-speaking country.
