| | How to get people england to wear masks in shops?
Seems it's an issue at home, and I actually am worried about older relatives there.
So why not incentivise it? VAT off shop purchases for mask wearers?
Gift vouchers on next purchase? We can't expect everybody to be altruistic can we.
Meanwhile in Switzerland I have no idea as I never leave the house, apart from weekends (when I isolate on the slopes )

Not being allowed in the store should work. I think nearly all the supermarkets have now banned shoppers if they refuse to wear a mask.

PLENTY of mask-dodgers here in Switzerland. In general plenty of people with no consideration for others. And no-one really enforcing anything.
When I was in England earlier in the year when there was mandatory mask wearing in shops, in Tesco the staff went about and gathered in close groups without masks and in some cases stood without masks directly next to customers, shouting at them to keep their distance. It was bizarre.
These kinds of situations just go to demonstrate the type of people we have in society.

Pretty much everyone I see in the grocery stores here is wearing a mask... Though one guy was so kind as to remove his the other day so he could blow his nose while walking through the crowded store.
I was surprised to see the cashier at Denner not wearing one today. I was tempted to ask why but didn't.

Its very simple, a shop is private property and if customers refuse to wear a mask (as a condition of entry) they are trespassing and can be prosecuted, or just not served.
I think the question is, should 'minimum wage' staff really have to stand up to rude and abusive people?

I drove back to Switzerland from UK a couple of weeks ago. On the occasions I visited the shops there it was just the same as here: 99.9% of people wearing masks plus the odd idiot - same as I see here in the city.
The key difference is that the UK media are very different to the Swiss media ... which is actually a great thing otherwise we'd have nothing to get riled about!

I have an easy solution. License 5 assassins who are allowed to shoot anyone not wearing a mask in public or breaking any lockdown rules with a quota of one per day. 5 deaths per day is small beer given the current situation and the dramatic and publicised deaths will motivate people to comply.

Folk are mostly pretty good but you do get the odd truculent arse who thinks they're immune because they think covid isn't real etc. As medea said, most supermarkets are now refusing entry to maskless folk.

(I don't know the situation in UK, in other countries people have to wear it in every public space, indoors or outdoors)

Exactly! I see many people with masks below their nose in ZH! In a packed bus on average I see 5-10 people with their nose fully exposed. 1-3 with no mask on!
There is a new breed now too, they hold the mask in their hand and a few inches in front of their face, as if it is some kind of force shield
Some possible creative solutions-
1- Create new jobs for official nose punchers. These people will go around punching people with no face mask on
2-Create a website where photos of mask dodgers can be uploaded. Mask dodger gets CHF1000 fine, half goes to the state and the other half goes to the person who posted the photo. People should spy on each other like in former East Germany
3- Public caning for mask dodgers. Possible locations? Paradeplatz or in front of the opera house | The following 2 users would like to thank Talk to you later for this useful post: | |

(I don't know the situation in UK, in other countries people have to wear it in every public space, indoors or outdoors) | | | | | Masks were required but most stores were refusing to try and force people to wear masks in case they start getting aggressive towards staff (who are clearly not paid to police/enforce it). They're taking a stronger line now at least most of the larger supermarket chains seem to be.
My personal experience around where I live near Milton Keynes is there were a lot more people in places like shopping centres (admittedly where all major retail is closed) walking around without masks. Previously when in shops like Tesco I'd say maybe 5% of people didn't have masks on which I've never seen here in supermarkets.
