looking for help with school Biel/Bienne

Hi, Just moved here and need to find school for my son. He is 7 and in second grade back in the states. We are only here for a short period of time. 2-3 months. They tell me that he can't go to a French/German school here because he doesn't speak at least a little bit of the language. I am going to look into the international school and British school in Bern but I think that will be too expensive. He needs to go to school, for him but mostly for my sanity. Does anyone have any info for me regarding the French/German school or maybe a private tutor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My husbands work is calling the schools on Monday, because we don't speak the language either. thanks.

hello! Are you still looking for a private tutor for your son? If yes, Iwould be interested to help you out. I can give details about myself if I get a positive feedback from you. If not, I wish you a great stay in Biel/Bienne.

Re: looking for help with school Biel/Bienne

Hi,
usually there is support for kids who do not speak the language. There are reception classes or special intensive laguage classes usually organised by the state schools
On the Canton of Berne website this is also suggested..Is the problem due to the fact that you are only short term. I would explore it further with the cantonal education authorities.

sorry it only appears to be in French or German

Re: looking for help with school Biel/Bienne

Thank you for the response. We have put him in a school that is taught so the kids can learn German (which hasn't been easy for him). We are returning home in a few weeks, so I appreciate the offer. Biel/Bienne has been nice. We have enjoyed our stay.
