Re: When can we take covid vaccine

Not been following this thread in detail, but rather than start a new one I'll ask my question here - does anyone know if it's possible to shortcut the list and go private for your vaccinations? Paid for, I would assume.

Just out of academic interest, but the rollout seems so slow and I can imagine quite a lot of people who aren't in the high-risk groups but would still want to get the vaccine sooner rather than later, and normally one would expect that money would talk, so if you're prepared to pay you can get it done asap.

I don't know a concrete answer to this, but seeing as states are supplying things at the moment, it could be logistically difficult for a clinic to get their hands on a supply to use privately.
Could also cause a shitstorm of bad press that makes it not worth it.

On the other side, I'm sure a brown envelope could get you a doctors letter.

They told me effectiveness would be highest as from 2 weeks after the second shot. But then if you are allowed to enter without tests ect might be different per country.

Yes, that's our thought too. I know that Roche, for example, have tried to buy vaccines for their employees but been unable to do so, i.e. the manufacturers won't sell to private organisations, which is what's prompted the question really.

Re: When can we take covid vaccine

Wow, in Zurich the number of available appointments now is almost gone...
Most of impfort don't have any appointment left.

Can we get vaccinated by our GP?
What is the pros and cons?

Ask your GP. I got my first shot already through my GP and a date for the second one.

From what I've seen, the mRNA ones appear to have lower side effects and a better end result. I don't know how long you'd be waiting for an AZ one seeing as they're not even approved here yet.
Yep - Most of my friends & colleagues are English & I have heard multiple reports of severe side effects from their friends & family who have received AZ.

Hubby had his first AZ shot this week. Similar side effects like I had, bit groggy, bit tired and a sore arm. He´s ok now. Hopefully the same when he gets his second one!

I'm not sure I'd trust the opinion of a bone cracker in relation to vaccinations. Is France still using AZ?

In honesty, if I were offered an AZ now, today. I'd take it. With the other option being to wait X number of weeks for a Pfizer/Moderna.

Which is why hubby went for AZ instead of waiting. I would have taken it as well if it were possible in Switzerland. There is always a risk and that was one I definitely would have taken.

Or that they weren't aware of what needed to be done in order to get one. Anyway, not worth concerning ones self over what's happened. Everyone who wants one will have one soon. Vaccine production in Visp is getting a huge boost so that should be the end of everything. Time to open the country up in July without restrictions and get life back to normal!
Which also falls under the concept of personal responsibility. To find the necessary information and if it's only asking your care-taker.
Anyone who has not at all heard of covid and/or vaccine won't need a vaccine possibly.

The vulnerable had February, March and April to do it. Moving on with the vaccination to younger people after 3 months is compatible with the concept of personal responsibility. Anyone in the vulnerable population had the chance, so the ones not taking vaccine is because they don't want.
It is not that the door is closed, the vulnerable can still register and get an appointment.
A 60+ neighbour cancelled his appointment for last week, has now reconsidered and has a new appointment for 12 May.

Via GP or on the website? There is a person on the forum who is in similar situation (cancelled due to urgent surgery) and cannot get a new appointment.

My GP's assistant refused to put me in waiting list when she learned that I created an account at vacme. She says either you are registered by us or by the canton.

...my neighbour's parents live in Nidwalden, are close to 80 and still haven't been vaccinated or had an invite.
Sorry if it's an obvious question but have they actually registered for it? I was pretty sure that all Kantons had now gone well past the over-80s. Some very elderly people might well be under the impression that they will be proactively contacted by their GP. And they may not be very internet-savvy so perhaps someone can help them?

I think there are several people who do not want to get vaccinated. I don't know any person who's 45+ who wants to get vaccinated amongst my family or friends. Nobody is antivax (myself included), but everybody has its own opinion (either they do not go out much, or they are not interested in travelling or whatever, etc.).

Vaccination is not mandatory in Switzerland.
I am a strong believer that everybody is free to decide for him/herself whether they want to get vaccinated or not. Without being pressured or having to feel guilty (whatever their decision).

This is a thread about when the vaccine is available, not whether or not we should get vaccinated.
Yes, it's a thread about when the vaccine is available but you've said repeatedly that you've no intention of getting the vaccination -- so what is your contribution here? What you've not said very clearly is why you're unwilling. We all agree that vaccination is not mandatory, that's not the issue. If you're thirsty it's a good idea to drink some water yet it isn't mandatory to do so. But it's reasonable to ask why you wouldn't take the simple, quick, and almost entirely risk-free option.

As others have said, this is a matter of social responsibility. All I can see as your justification is that you don't go out of your house so don't need it. And presumably have no plans to ever leave the building you live in? No plans to go shopping or to travel or to visit a restaurant or doctor? Or to interact with any visitors to your home, or workmates / customers? Ever?

The latest data from the US, widely reported in recent days, is that vaccination severely restricts the spread of Covid by increasing our resistance to infection, and if we are infected, to greatly weaken the strength of the virus we pass on. It's a no-brainer. These results directly attack the must-spread instincts of any virus. I don't want to say outright that you're being selfish and irresponsible but it's not an attitude I can comprehend. Nothing you've said makes the reason any clearer. Genuinely, it would be good to know so that I can at least be more understanding towards you and others who take the same view. Thanks.
