Agreed that not using AZ at all is not the way to go, at least as long as there’s not enough to go round. Germany is limiting AZ to over 60s. Reasonable compromise. | | | | | So why is it ok that over 60s take the risk?

TBH, I think it‘s going to be interesting to see the Corona recovery in the UK after Mad Boris lifts his restrictions in May...

| | Re: When can we take covid vaccine | Quote: | | | | | So why is it ok that over 60s take the risk? | | | | | Quoting an April 21 BMJ editorial: „The risk was higher in the younger age groups, starting at 1.1 serious harm events for 100 000 immunised people among those aged 20-29 years and falling to 0.2/100 000 in those aged 60-69. (...) In most adult age groups, the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine far outweigh the risks. The exception is the 20-29 year age group, for which the risk-benefit equation is more finely balanced when community transmission is low.“
Source: https://www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n958
It goes on to conclude: „It remains the case that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine far outweigh the risks for all adult age groups, especially when the potential for long covid is considered. People should accept vaccination when it is offered but seek medical advice if they develop the symptoms listed by Public Health England (box 1).12 If this issue delays the rollout of vaccines or stops some people accepting vaccination, many more preventable deaths could occur. The best covid-19 vaccine available is the one you can get today.“
When our teenaged daughter becomes eligible for a jab, I wouldn‘t want it to be AZ. Pfizer is working on getting theirs approved in the 12 to 16 age group; to the best of my knowledge it is already the only one that can be given to 16-year-olds.

| | | | | Fully agree - my Swiss 26 year old daughter has said that she will refuse an AZ jab (without any prior discussions with me), and am very happy about that. Luckily, I believe that it‘s not permitted in Switzerland, and I hope that it stays that way.

| | | | | The Pfizer vaccine can be given to 16 year olds. They will be using this one in the cantons who will start vaccinating over 16 year olds this week.

Israel's pandemic response coordinator, Nachman Ash, said that a preliminary study showed "tens of incidents" of myocarditis occurring among more than 5 million vaccinated people, primarily after the second dose.
Ash said it was unclear whether this was unusually high and whether it was connected to the vaccine. | | | | | |

Anybody who took the vaccine after recovering from Covid? The Vaccine appointment site is advising that the side effects would be higher in this group.hence the question. Thanks.

SZ has just opened up to the general population, as well as opened four new vaccine centers, in Pfäffikon, Immensee, Steinen, and Reichenburg.
Curious, as the GP's office has stopped vaccinating as they cannot get supplies. They cannot say when they will resume.
Perhaps it's due to the Moderna delivery delay, while the canton is offering Pfizern?
Still no word from the app to allow me to make an appointment, though. So cantonal progress, but personally still stuck.

They wrote I would get a SMS with appointments once available for my group. SobI expect something soon or will call the hotline.
Have you registered on the sz.ch website?

Have you registered on the sz.ch website? | | | | | Yes, I registered back in January, when the app first went live. The reports of other cantons deleting registrations before the risk group was called has me a tad concerned, so I've been trying to get hold of the hotline to verify if my registration is still good. Hotline rings busy, perhaps not surprising.
I'm also registered with my GP, but as per my previous post, they don't know when they will receive supplies.
