I just went to vacme.ch to register for the vaccine (my husband had told me that he had already registered me but apparently he never did ) and after registering, it automatically allowed me to book appointments to receive the vaccine (in Wetzikon, as all the appointments in Uster were already taken, I guess).

After I registered, it told me that I am in Group E (I'm in my late 40s) and it gave me a page with a code, etc. on it to keep and to print. While registering, I had listed my chronic illness as being asthma as well as the fact that I have a damaged heart due to an incident that occurred after my son was born. So I guess that's why I was automatically asked to make an appointment.

So now I have an appt for my first shot a week from tomorrow and then my second shot on June 9th.

Today is my birthday, too. So that's a nice Bday present -- being able to finally get the vaccine soon. I hope everyone else here can, too!
Happy birthday, Pancakes!

I also hope everyone who wants it will be able to get it soon..

I was talking to a friend from Thurgau today, she had her vaccination a couple of weeks ago. She belongs to a Pilatus class and they are all in their early seventies. She is the only one vaccinated and the others all mocked her.
Last week one from the class was diagnosed with COVID and she died in the hospital on Sunday.

Maybe they will take it more seriously now?
Being over 70 and not getting the vaccine is positively Darwinian.

A friend of my father, in his 80s. His daughter convinced him that the vaccine was no good, got Covid and ended up in hospital.

Re: When can we take covid vaccine

So Bern seems to have secretly opened up its vaccination to everyone overnight (N and M groups). But there's no press release or news, and only 1 location possible that can't be booked for both the first and second shot. But I guess I'll be refreshing the page today as it goes.

Yay ...

Hardly Darwinian, the chances of a 70 year old passing down their genes is not terribly likely.

Happy birthday Pancakes.
Is asthma considered a risk group, or was it the heart damage that put you higher on the list? Possibly a combination of both.

I've a friend who's just broke up with his partner, so maybe they qualify with a broken heart.

Re: When can we take covid vaccine

based on news reports - Switzerland received on Monday 1m vaccines and since they have relatively short expiration date and strict storage / temperature requirements - we likely to see this and next week more groups being invited to the "Impfstations"

That's good news. We heard through the grapevine that groups M and N were open so we went online. The only option as of this moment is in Tavannes on May 14. Lovely place, but nowhere near us and I don't see folks from Emmenthal heading that way either.

Tavannes is pretty far from most of the canton of Bern, itís practically in Jura.
Set an alarm and get on there at 8 when they open up the new appointments.

Thanks, Ato!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's broken heart (I hope that will become easier, with time...).

To answer your question, I'm not sure, but I had actually listed both my asthma and my heart condition in the "remarks" section on the vacme.ch site after I clicked that I have a "chronic condition." And then this morning, I was on the phone with my doctor and told her about the vaccine appointments and she said she will email me something to bring to the appointment to prove that I have those conditions. She said you have to bring some kind of proof with you (which makes sense).

----

Just as a side note -- my doctor also suggested that I be tested for antibodies first, so they'll be doing that test since they can use the blood they took last Friday for my vitamin D check. I've had a few colds this winter and always tested negative for Covid, but I think false negatives are rather common, so I'm happy to get an antibodies test. It's only about 50 CHF. My dr. said it's good to get tested if you think you could possible have antibodies so that you'll know if you should get both shots or just one.

Yes but in Bern they did this after the doctors had already filled up their appointment books!!!

Hi,

Are you saying that as long as your group is on, then you can come to get vaccination even without appointment ?

I'm trying to get an appointment, so far without success.
I saw one yesterday, but as I want to check another vaccination center, I moved away from the webpage, and when I return back, it is already gone

Ollie

In Kt ZH once your group is open, you can book an appointment by first choosing a vaccination centre, then choosing the time. You can cancel or change it afterwards, but until you "send" dont leave the page. I also hesitated and was pipped to post for my first choice.

I know a number of people who had jabs already in Winterthur ZH, it was extremely efficient and most in and out in 25 mins including the 15 min wait after the shot to ensure no side effects. In Winterthur its run by the Kantonspital Winterthur and the MedBase, in a repurposed massive factory building in Winterthur TŲss. Huge carpark, and bus to the door. They have Pfizer, and now also Moderna and as a result will be openign up even more slots.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. User knavl posted above in post #405 regarding Bern sort of secretly opening appointments for two groups and not publicizing it.

Edit - and then several of the replies that followed (including mine) were related to that post.

I got my appointments!

Mid May and Mid June.

Komsomolez, according to the hotline, appointments are being sent out more or less in order of registration, unless there is a risk factor which would take priority.

My appointmens appeared about half a hour after I spoke to the hotline... probably a coincidence, but if your appointment doesn't show up in the next days, perhaps call.

You get a text message with the appointment date, time and place. If you can't' make the dates assigned, there is a link in the text to manage your appointments.

Mine are at Spital Lachen.

So a chance I can go home for the Fourth of July! Woooohoooo!
I'd assume you in Switzerland since 2006 ... and home is still 6'000 miles away ?
