Good stuff. Although I am hearing that AG now uses Sinopharm to handle the demand.

Odd... Switzerland has not ordered Sinopharm, dixit SRF

Why is this odd?
How much vaccine does CH need?

See the apparent contradiction now? I used the word odd as we may yet learn more, though.

My neighbor (out of old St Gallen jealousy, perhaps) likes to say: "Aargau, always at the front... of the alphabet at least", before mumbling about "not much else"

Then I learned about the "official order"

Anyway, good for you, enjoy that Pfizer or Moderna Impfung. The pace is truly picking up, getting mine on Saturday.

Let's give it a couple of weeks to see what the "not anti vax but doesn't care enough to bother jostling in the queue" silent majority do. I'm confident with a good outreach campaign that we can get up into the 80%s
I hope so.
I know a surprising number of people who refuse the jab, they mostly do not want to discuss their reasons.

I have the feeling they are simply frightened of the jab; a shame for them really.

It's especially a shame for those scares of getting the jab who are in the higher risk groups and have a far higher chance of actually getting seriously ill or even dying from COVID.

Re: When can we take covid vaccine

I got my second Pfizer shot this afternoon and was surprised by how few people were at the vaccination centre compared to my first shot. And my excitement at getting my second shot was dulled when I learnt just now that our neighbour has tested positive for Covid despite having had his second shot 3 weeks ago :-(

Re: When can we take covid vaccine

After Zurich last week opened its booking system basically to anyone interested I wonder if they kicked Basel up the ass as the very next day me (I) and a bunch of others in Basel got our Basel (Stadt) appointments through, for the 50+ group. Either that or simply just that boxes of vaccine showed up and were distributed (more likely).

Looking at the BAG data, and assuming that 70+ have had two doses already in case they went for the vaccine, uptake is 70% in age group 80+ and 56% in age group 70-79.

Pfft. They need to just send all the remaining people an invitation and not rely on them registering themselves.

Me2, but I must say this jab is a tiny needle and there is a tiny amount of material so you really do not feel anything.

Theres still plenty of 70 plus and even 80 plus getting vaxxed each week.

10 doses per 100 residents in the 70-79 in the week before last. 5 for 80 plus

Sure, I was saying they were done and as you say the total is still increasing. Let's see where this levels out. In Schwyz last week, most people seemed to be in their 50s. Or maybe they were 80, just looking fresh.

Sure, vaccination is a very successful way of tackling the pandemic, for example, with a third of the U.K. adult population fully vaccinated and at least two-thirds have received their first dose

Quote:
No new COVID-19 deaths were recorded in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Monday while Wales reported four new deaths, marking an impressive milestone for the U.K. as figures continue to drop following vaccination efforts.

Since the efficacy is not 100%, it is still possible to be tested positive afterwards. But fear not: „By seven days after the second dose, the vaccine was giving people 95.3% protection against infection and 96∙7% protection against death. Protection against symptomatic and asymptomatic infection was 97.0% and 91.5%, respectively. Protection against hospital admission was 97.2% overall. By 14 days after the second dose, the protection had risen slightly further.“ This refers to Pfizer. So - congratulations!!

Have you been in Zurich Messe? My husband has had his second jab this afternoon as well and told me exactly the same when he returned.

"Shame for them" is different to "shame on them", but I don't know which was meant

What's the PC expression these days for "man-up"? "They've just got to man-up". "Grow a pair" also I guess isn't PC. I've been "piqued" more times now than I care to mention. The next test would be if I'm ever brave enough to insert a needle into a vein myself.

Apologie if you already wrote this (I didn't see it) but did your husband get Pfizer from Zürich Messe?

There are many factors that could contribute to this. Age, underlying health issues, or just random dumb and unfortunate luck. The odds of not getting COVID offered by 95+% protection is still far better than those offered by 0% protection.

EDIT - https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-pers...ine-protection

Quote:
Estimated vaccine effectiveness at least 7 days after the second dose was 95.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 94.9% to 95.7%), with an incidence of 3.1 COVID-19 infections per 100,000 person-days in vaccinees, compared with 91.5 in unvaccinated people
