This person also works in Geneva. I was a bit surprised but they did it. Apparently questioned by reception person but overruled by superior.

Perhaps I've become too swissified in all this time but I'd think CH is taking a federal approach which would require an amalgamated data store and a certain amount of transparency and leeway in getting access to national data. I may be totally wrong but all stakeholders have surely had long enough to think about how to distribute and regulate the vaccine in the fastest, most efficient way, and that would mean strict processes being followed. But we'll see.

AFAIK it's every canton for himself, the confederation just divided doses among cantons depending on how many old people live in each.
Cantons seem to have slightly different approaches.

Re: Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

Each Kanton has their own registration system. Zurich one says they will check residency when you show up.

Registering in multiple places is just irresponsible and shows IMHO a "each man for himself" attitude. Imagine we all registered everywhere - it would dramatically increase demand (of vaccine, infrastructure and personnel etc) and then only go to one place.

Switzerland is lagging behind some countries and doing better than others - I think we need to be patient and allow the next months to unfold.

Can I register in multiple cantons for a covid vaccine, to see which (if any!) comes first?

People in UK that I are getting vaccinated or have been offered, and I have an underlying health condition and have heard no word in Switzerland

I don't understand why Switzerland has all these nuclear bunkers, army enrolment etc, reputation for perfect timing, but hasnt been able to do vaccines

It's not even an EU country and we have big pharma here

Does anybody know if there is or was any efforts for a home grown vaccine?

First of all, please don't register in multiple cantons. I don't think it's even possible but I might be wrong. I really hope the system takes care of the "pushers".

Second - if you have an underlying condition please talk to your GP/family doctor and specifically ask for his advice in regards with vaccination. Soon there will be more and more doctors' offices which could administrate the vaccines. I don't get why people feel the need to jump the queues, take side ways instead of following the official line which is quite logical and patient oriented.

Re: Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

People from different cantons registered in Kanton Schwyz and got the vaccine. But it was found out (or I wouldn't know about it) and it was on the news.
Schwyz has now changed their system and I'd think all other cantons now pay attention to this too.

It's indeed frustrating to pay one of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world, in the country of pharma, and still lagging behind. Of course, I agree: this is no reason to jump queues. Whoever is happy with the UK progress should go and get vaccinated in the UK :msncool:

I have an underlying condition and contacted my GP in Zurich to see if I could be added to their list. Their response was that they did not have enough vaccines to go around so they're not even taking names.

Apparently, more vaccines will be delivered to GPs in Canton Zurich by the end of March/early April, but I believe it is only 100 doses, which doesn't sound like a lot.

Agreed - but there is no need to screw everybody else over who is waiting patiently in order to get your social life back again ... we were offered help from a contact in Basel to register there, but I don't feel like bringing any bad karma on myself in such a situation.

The selfishness seen throughout the pandemic is why we are still in this mess and I will not contribute to it! OP, wait in line with everyone else.

Re: Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

On my GP's website they say, by mid March they vaccinated 100 people twice and an other 100 people got the first shot.

They also say, the got more than 600 patients older than 75 plus and more than 500 patients between 65 and 75.

It will take a loooong time until it's my turn. At least the vaccine will be well tested by then. :msnsarcastic:

PS: Apparently they also contact their patients in the highest risk groups personally. THAT's taking care of the patients. Once again I'm reassured of my choice of doctors. I'm not member of a risk group though and I'm quiet happy about that. :D

One canton, as opposed to one location, I think. since for BL we were offered a choice of locations. We chose "no preference", which marginally decreases the expected time to get an appointment.

I didn't realise that I could register in other cantons. It didn't seem an option. Not that I would anyway.

I just checked the website again for Zurich. By end of March/early April, 500 GPs will receive 100 vaccine doses. Which works out to about 5 doses per GP??

So, at this rate, one would have more chances of getting the vaccine by going to a vaccine centre than at the GP.

I would hope it is 500X100.
Also your maths is bad, it would be 5 GP's fighting for each vaccine dose if you read it that way.

I would hope it is 500 x 100! Even then, that's not a lot.

Not sure what you are saying...

Website says:

Ende März/Anfang April erhalten weitere 500 Hausarztpraxen ein Kontingent von 100 Impfdosen.

Translation:

At the end of March/beginning of April, another 500 GP practices will receive a quota of 100 vaccine doses.

Which clearly means 500 GP get 100 vaccine each for a total of 50'000.

Even if the 100 were to be divided by 500 GP, then each would get 0.2.
How you get to 5 doses per GP is a little baffling and perhaps worrying.

Well that is 50'000 doses so can vaccinated 25'000 people. Considering a population to be vaccinated of roughly 900'000 (60% of the 1.5 million) then it will help vaccinate an additional 2.8% of the population of the canton on top of the other efforts.

I think this is ok :) (late perhaps but good)

That should be 50'000 vaccines, not 500'000?

Maybe we should both refrain from doing maths on a Monday morning ;-)

But I my initial reading was (incorrectly) 100 doses in total, not 100 doses each. The latter makes more sense, of course.

Kri, please check your maths as well. 500*100= 50,000

We are tiny. But population of 1.5 million?
Are you expecting the other ca. 7.5 million to be dead by the time the vaccine arrives?

@cremebrulee, yes my GP's website also says to grab a chance where ever available and report back to be taken off their list.

It should help property prices in the end...

The 500*100 is only ZH news. The other 7.5 seem will have to find their own doses.
