Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

Is it possible?

Can I register in multiple cantons for a covid vaccine, to see which (if any!) comes first?

People in UK that I are getting vaccinated or have been offered, and I have an underlying health condition and have heard no word in Switzerland

I don't understand why Switzerland has all these nuclear bunkers, army enrolment etc, reputation for perfect timing, but hasnt been able to do vaccines

It's not even an EU country and we have big pharma here

Does anybody know if there is or was any efforts for a home grown vaccine?

Lonza just down the road from me are helping to produce the Moderna vaccine. I don't expect that'll get it in my arm any faster though

I'd suggest to get registered in the canton of your residence, in order to prevent any waste.

Re: Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

I believe many cantons (GE/VD at least) ask for your address and reject those from elsewhere. However your mileage may vary depending on where you are.

Don’t forget that the numbers we are seeing from the UK are for the first jab, with no yet know schedule for the second. It is a different strategy than here, and one I agree with, but it is what it is. But still only 40%;of adults have had this.

Big Pharma, even in this country, has an objective of making lots of money for their shareholders, and big bonuses for their executives. They only have the objective of keeping you alive when it suits their purposes. They are selling to the highest bidder, meaning customers like Switzerland are getting shafted.

If they'd approve and order the AZ (like the UK) which is being sold at cost, then they wouldn't be

is their some sort of internal investigation on the relevant authorities into the handling of all this?

But if I remember correctly when I compared for 2 doses, Swiss (or Bern, cant remember what I compared) was equal-ish with UK a few days ago, if stats were right

Why in a different canton? You can register in Serbia just like this psychiatrist from Zurich did, and get your shot there.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idUSKBN2BH2HT

"News of its largesse has already spread beyond the Balkans. Daniel Bindernagel, a German psychiatrist from Switzerland, told Reuters he had travelled in and managed to apply for a shot on the Serbian government’s website.

“It’s very good for me,” he told Reuters. “I tried ... in Switzerland and Germany. I am a physician, but I could not.”

Re: Register in multiple cantons for vaccine?

there was a piece of news some time ago about vaccine tourists (like a guy who had his company in a canton and got vaccinated there) and since then I think cantons are paying attention to use their doses on their resident population only.

Switzerland has more vaccines than EU, if you consider that swiss medic hasn't approved astrazeneca yet so we're missing out on those doses.
We have contracts for enough doses to cover everyone, but they have to arrive.

You are comparing exclusively with the UK which is a country with a big tradition in paid human medical trials and financed a domestic solution providing all that is needed for the third phase trial, in exchange for exclusive contracts on vaccines made at certain plants, and is additionally mostly doing one dose of the vaccine and hoping they'll have enough for the second one.

Switzerland has big pharma but the UK is not nothing in this field.

Switzerland could also pursue an EU-style vaccine nationalism, we have the Lonza here after all, but Switzerland being a small country with big pharma is also why we cannot afford to pursue misguided short-term policies and destroy the reputation and market principles we survive on. It's also maybe why the EU included Switzerland in the free vaccine trade zone.

>is their some sort of internal investigation on the relevant authorities into the handling of all this?

they handle contracts and publish them when they're ready. They're not entering new contracts because they ordered enough even if booster shots are needed in fall.
Lonza offered earlier last year to fund additional production capacity, but the confederation refused due to a lack of legal basis (and even then it still wasn't known whether the moderna vaccine would be effective, lonza got a production contract based on a speculative vaccine).

With hindsight we could have bought more vaccines, spent even more money on them, and risked more by ordering more doses for early delivery.

The federal council and the BAG decided this way. This way seems better than what the procurement efforts of the EU brought (given their sourcing issues), but it's worse than the US and Israeli efforts. Hopefully also cheaper.

I don't think there is much to investigate, at the end every entity made risk vs reward choices, political choices. There is no right or wrong, unless you go full stupid and you manage to fail both effective covid wave management and vaccine sourcing. That is just wrong.

AZ is going through the SwissMedic approval process. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately), they don't have a fast track. Why they can't accept EU or UK clinical trials, I don't know. Maybe that will change over the coming years.

Wait a min...when I registered, at some point my address came up in the website and a question to confirm it or update it. It was stored on some database and was linked to my name or health insurance card.

So, all you need is to visit any cantonal site, register and report back

No, you’re free to choose where you go for the vaccination. The tariff agreement is valid all over Switzerland. So the vaccination is independent of your place of residence or the place you’re receiving ongoing treatment.

I think that the system assumes that people aren't going to register multiple times, since you will be getting one shot for now. Not a couple.

So - yes, the place of registration might be irrelevant, but how many time you'll register will matter since you might be blocking somebody else's vax? I may be wrong, of course. But it seems logical.

Do you pay any attention at all to what is going on around you? Between SwissInfo, the local and the government website you should have most of the answers to your questions!

The registration system is federal, you can only register on the system once and select one location for your two appointments. Once you select the date for the first appointment, the second will be offered four weeks later.

You do not get to choose which vaccine you will get.

If you have an underlying medical condition, the first step is to have your Swiss family doctor issue the official certificate needed to register for group B. Once you have the certificate you can register and make the appointment.

On the day of the appointment you should turn up no more than five minutes early. Your temp will be taken, a security person may pre screen you to ensure you have the documents required and eventually you will get to a registration desk where your Id, residency, health insurance and doctors certificate will be reviewed.

Assuming all is OK, you’ll be given two papers - a pre filled form to be signed by the person giving the vaccine and a card indicating the vaccine that will be issued (first or second jab) Before giving you the vaccine, you will be interviewed in the local language as to your medical condition, medication etc.., if not satisfied they will refuse to give you the jab. So if you can’t speak the language, make sure you have someone with you that does.

Once you have got the jab, they give you an egg timer thingy and send you to a waiting room were you wait for at least 15 mins and may not leave until the medical person indicates you can leave, this is not optional.

That is my experience, plus two colleagues at two centers in Kanton Bern, for the first jab.

I registered online in Valais. There were only 4 vaccine centre options, the nearest 45 mins drive from me. Then I heard that a friend had had it at our local GP ..... so we called and got on the GP list too. So not just one list it seems.

A week is a long time when it comes to corona, depending where you are.

UK now has almost 60% of its adult population with one vaccination and is now switching to second doses of which almost 7% of the adult population have had.

I believe your AHV number is registered with your vaccination but I don't believe that there's the IT infrastructure that would avoid or detect someone registering or indeed even receiving a dose more than once. I imagine little old ladies writing your name on a bit of paper.

That's an interesting conclusion. My assumption is the opposite. Perhaps I've become too swissified in all this time but I'd think CH is taking a federal approach which would require an amalgamated data store and a certain amount of transparency and leeway in getting access to national data. I may be totally wrong but all stakeholders have surely had long enough to think about how to distribute and regulate the vaccine in the fastest, most efficient way, and that would mean strict processes being followed. But we'll see.
