I mostly hear from the government about ordering millions and millions of Moderna for the next year.

They make an appointment for you only in the know that there will be the second dose too. One of the reasons for which the process seemed too slow.

I guess there will be only very few people who would need refresh vaccination in autumn, maybe only the most vulnerable who was vaccinated in winter - early spring.

It's very hard to tell if a cloth mask is going to be effective thanks to a special coating just by looking at it. Many standard cloth masks that I see blatantly aren't, sometimes the fabric is thin enough to be slightly see-through. | | | | | I agree. Mine is actually pretty heavy duty and (according to the scientific blurb that came with it) effective if it's kept clean and worn properly. But I agree in principle that the security guy shouldn't have to make a judgement on this. Better to insist on a standard one. I'd no problem with the request.

Sorry to be a bummer but just a warning, there seems to be more side effects after the 2nd shot, or natural immunity + 1st shot, particularly of Moderna, particularly with women.
I believe, but I am not an expert, that is is documented. I know it's true from people I've personally heard from.
I don't mind this and personally feel it's worth it considering what I have witnessed friends go through who have been suffering from long covid for half a year now.
So might be good to give yourself a "Good for me, look, I made it so far through the last pandemic year" bonus and plan ahead to give yourself a couple easy days off after 2nd shot scheduled.
Also, please wait a few weeks before fully relaxing. There are many documented cases, and I have another friend, who very much did get Covid soon after vaccination because they didn't wait the full two weeks before easing up on past precautions.
Also want to add, there seems to be discussion and studies in the scientific community starting about how to do a 3rd booster later in the year. Moderna has proven it's booster against the South African Variant. There seems to be some schools of thought that getting a third booster later in the year with the same manufacturer as the 1st&2nd shot will really bring stronger immunity. I believe the UK has already started measures to organized this for it's elderly for September but I can't speak to all the details.
Conversely, there is also lots of talk starting about how mixing and matching may actually offer a broader immunity and studies have started, particularly in the UK on this topic, which I believe are out or about to come out. This gets more important with vector vaccines and vaccines like the AstraZeneca. This thinking is already present in the construction of the 1st and 2nd shot of the Russian vaccine. Apparently this logic isn't anything new and has been explored with AIDs virus, etc.
Again, I am not an expert on all this, but I thought I'd just mention this so that those very interested can google this thinking and studies to easily learn more.
If anyone, wants to update, clarify or better explain this thinking I point people towards above, please feel free.

I was surprised to learn that in some other countries Moderna has better reputation than Pfizer and if people have a choice they choose Moderna.

I had less side effects after my second Pfizer shot than from the first one. Everyone is different, I guess. The one side effect I have is that I am more relaxed about the utter thunderchunts who are still not capable of wearing a mask correctly or think they are being clever by choosing not to do so. I still want to spray them like naughty cats when they get close to me but I've now moved on to really studying and remembering their faces. My list of people I don't want anything to do with in a professional or personal capacity is growing every day.

With 1m doses of Moderna arriving in Switzerland today, I would assume it's unlikely I'll get a Pfizer jab the coming week?

Basically if your appointment is in a big cantonal hospital your chances of getting Pfizer increase (more difficult to store).

Out of all the western doses I'd only avoid J and J (though I'd take that too if they gave 2 shots).

| | Re: Which Vaccine at ZH Oerlikon Messe? Share Experience? | Quote: | | | | | Out flat for 2 days after the second Moderna. Still very happy I had them! | | | | | Now into my 6th day following my second Pfizer shot (didn‘t feel a thing this time). First shot hurt for a split second, and I felt rotten and needed to sleep about 4 hours during the day after a couple of days. Then woke feeling fine. This time, I felt a bit sleepy a couple of days after, and took a power nap for about 45 mins, which is unusual for me. Woke again feeling well.
Daughter had her first Moderna shot couple of weeks ago. She also felt pretty bad for a few hours - describes it as „coming in waves“ over a couple of days.
We both found the entire process in Zurich and Wetzikon amazingly efficient and ‚enjoyable‘.
But, at the end of the day, happy vaccination to you!!!

Anyone got a jab at the Messe the past few days and can say whether it was Moderna or Pfizer that was given?

Just went tonight and it was Pfizer for both me and my husband.
Amazingly well-organised center and the staff was super kind.
We were wearing new FFP2 masks and had no trouble with the security guard. A man in front of us had to swap his cloth mask for a new hygiene mask however.

I'm curious what the side-effects usually are, for women after the second Moderna dose. I'm female and am due to have my second dose of the Moderna vax next week, and I want to be as prepared as possible, I guess -- both in terms of being mentally prepared and also to have whatever kind of meds I might need to manage any side-effects (apart from the obvious Dafalgan).

Sounds like mainly flu like symptoms, so not sure anything other than paracetamol would be useful.

| | | | | In Affoltern they asked everyone to swap masks, even myself with a FFP2 mask. I asked why, and she said they just have to be sure that nobody is coming in wearing an old, contaminated mask. Makes sense.
