The customer service agent spoke perfect English. There is deepl as well.
FWIW, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the high quality (and branded) eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses.

I've ordered perscription glasses (and sunglasses) online from goggles4U to Switzerland. It's always worked out fine and the glasses seem good. The website isn't so not super user friendly, but it works out fine.
The glasses are so cheap, that I usually don't worry too much about having a perfect fit and just order 5 or 6 pairs, with the idea that one or two of them will be good.

The readings in the opening message were wrong as I had suspected.
Ace1 had also rightly remarked that 0.25 and 0.5 were small numbers. My eye doc's office definitely sent wrong old measurements to me!!!
The real numbers for my current glasses is +1.25 and +1.50. These glasses still kind of work ok but the measurements have shifted slightly, so my educated guess based on trying super cheap reading glasses is +1.5 and +1.75.

Otherwise I use contacts - which I get tested for regularly at Fielmanns.

Cheap reading glasses usually don't have antireflexive coating which may cause fatigue of the eyes. Another thing is that the lenses in those cheap glasses may not be perfect, a little bend or something.
My eyes sometimes, let's say fifty-fifty percent of the time, already refuse to focus on close objects. I bought glasses at coop, or maybe it was migros, but I also felt headaches. Eventually I ordered online in china glasses made by optician, with antireflex, which costed me ~30 usd and nearly 2 months waiting, but they feel good.

I just started needing reading glasses sometime in the last couple of years with my regular distance correction. I had an exam at my ophthalmologist and bought several pair of glasses online at Zennioptical.com. They are made in China, are relatively inexpensive, and work for me. It can take about a month to receive the glasses.
One thing I’ve noticed is that as my eyeball gets older, and I assume looses flexibility from presbyopia, my distance vision improves. Apparently this is quite normal.

Another update, went to Fielmann (CHF25) just now to see if my guesstimate was right. Both eyes are now +1.75, so no difference between the eyes any more.
I can now peacefully order glasses online. Thanks everyone for the informative discussion.
