Community Face Masks [reusable cloth masks] - Where to buy?

Hi everyone. I'd like some help. I'm new here in Switzerland and I'd like to get some community masks. Anyone know where to find? Online maybe? Any tip? Thank you.

Re: Community Face Masks - Where to buy?

I got some from swissmask.org at the start of the pandemic, set up as a non-profit initiative in Geneva. Maybe this is the kind of thing you mean?

From their website:

The SwissMask is the story of Carouge merchants who decided to transform their sewing workshop into a workshop for the manufacture of masks made of Made in Switzerland fabric, in the form of a non-profit association.

I believe you will be able to buy them in Galaxus.ch as well, which is like amazon! I also found several types/models both in coop and in migros

They're no good. Almost all of them fell through in the tests of Kassensturz. Worst thing there: Even the ones that were labelled with a certificate!

These are very good (with corresponding prices):

I have a stash of 6 that I wash after each use, they hold up very well.

What does the word community mean here please? I don't know what a community mask is. I haven't come across that turn of phrase.

Well that's not what you said. "Community masks" doesn't really mean anything, TBH.

I read this somewhere when looking for masks for skiing. This kind of mask protects others from you, but does not protect you from others.

So I guess it means that if you are wearing it, you spread less virus, but it does not stop viruses from being breathed in.

Aahh... I understood it as meaning not being manufactured as a profit-making business, but more like a community initiative. Might be totally wrong though.

Just like ~99% of the masks in use across the world. They were never intended to protect the wearer, although there were folk, and indeed still are, who seem to think it does and feel safer when wearing one. Yes, there may be a small amount of direct protection, but that's not their function.

I always assumed, it came from the time around a year ago, when no one could get hold of surgical masks and people in the "community" starting making tons of fabric masks for everyone (before companies started doing the same). Could be wrong.

Re: Community Face Masks [reusable cloth masks] - Where to buy?

Usually small business, no mass production. Usually those, who lost jobs and turned into mask making. I would not classify Migros/Manor/Coop mass production as community masks - it's when you want a textile mask but support a local business. I have made so many and free, for friends and colleagues, family did the same...A sense of a commmunity support.

The masks are great .
