Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

Pfizer:
After the first jab, I couldn't sleep on my arm for a few days but otherwise no side effects.
After the second jab, I had no side effects whatsoever.

No fever, just knocked-out for 2 days
Same here! Really high fever for two days and really tired the day after that, but I don't think the 30 degrees outside helped either.
Just glad it's done and dusted ( well at least until we need a booster jab)

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

Sorry to hear that some people are having trouble with Moderna. I met a friend on Saturday who said that a couple of people in his work team had mild negative reactions e.g. cold/flu symptoms for a day or two - inconvenient and uncomfortable but nothing really bad. I've heard the same from some AZ recipients in the UK.

I've had my two Pfizer jabs here with no side effects at all apart from the usual slight ache in the arm i.e. couldn't sleep on that side for a couple of nights but nothing worse than that.

Which isn't to say that Pfizer is "better" or anything silly like that. It surely depends on the individual. Though for different levels of arm ache I also wonder (pure speculation) if this is partly a matter of skill/experience of the person administering the jab.

I've heard it said a few times that (non-serious) side effects are simply proof that the vaccine is starting to do its job -- which I guess is a consoling way to look at it.

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

First shot of the Moderna vaccine 8 days ago and absolutely nothing, I didn't even have a sore arm. I did actually excercise soon after the jab and then again in the evening. It could be that the increased cardiovascular activity helped

Brisk 7.5km walk to and from the vaccination centre in Baar and then my usual evening run.

You need to repeat this for the second jab and report back!

People experience pain indifferent ways too and have different levels of tolerance. One person's sore arm is another person's usual sore arms after a heavy gym session.

One member wrote something like: I had a fever of nearly 38°C and my wife also had a fever but at a lower temperature than that.

A fever is normally defined as above 38°C.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone's side-effects and will probably get my come-uppance when I have my second jab!

Had second jab earlier today, so far so good.

while I expect some side effects, I just reminded myself that things could be worse than this if one catches Covid.

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

Had my second jab earlier today (Moderna). Fine so far The arm is starting to hurt (just like the first time), otherwise no complaints.

My husband on the other hand is exhausted. But no fever.

A fever may be defined as 38 or above, but a) that's rectally and b) it doesn't mean if you're on 37.0 you won't feel a bit ropey if your baseline is 36.0.

37.6 - by ear - meh.

If your normal body temperature is 36.0, you probably either normally measure while asleep or aren't a human.

Normal adult human body temperature ranges from 36.1 - 37.2 °C.

The important thing is to know what is ‘normal’ for you. Mine is usually around 36.5.

Mine is often lower than that, then my resting heart rate of 43 sets off alarms in hospital if connected to a heart monitor. Usually the alarm is default set for 50, they then re-set at 45 for it to go off a couple of minutes later.

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

I'd say my second dose hurt more than the first one at the moment of getting it - I guess it may also depend on which part of the muscle it gets.

What I find intriguing is that I know of cases (AZ admittedly) who got tested positive with no significant symptoms but got fever after the vaccine.

Normal baseline internally is 36.5 to 37. During the day this can vary between 0.5 and 1 degree. Oral temperature is typically 0.7C lower. Under the arm 1.0C. Oh and the variation is different between men and women.

Typical ear thermometers which use IR are less reliable than other medical thermometers.

TL;DR - you're wrong. So wrong.

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

Late to this thread, see it's already reached critical mass and OP has received the second dose, but would like to add two aspects in case of interest:

1) The TCM approach of preparing for the vaccine with certain herbal formulas and/or acupuncture, or simply ginger water -- potentially helpful as a placebo at least (à la Evop's cranberry & honey black tea in post #45 above), for those already comfortable with TCM (i.e., more than a tiny minority given its popularization in CH?). Here are some short takes on the subject: 1, 2, 3 (general write-ups but they give some idea; no personal affiliation with any of these clinics). I've no strong view on the subject, just want to point out the existence of this phenomenon, not having seen it mentioned in any of the EF coronavirus threads.

2) The documented additional effect of the vaccine on some women's menstrual cycles, though experts disagree on how this works and how consequential it may be. (See, for instance, the NYT articles "Women Report Worse Side Effects After a Covid Vaccine," and "No, We Don’t Know if Vaccines Change Your Period," both from April 2021). Not sure female EFers would feel like sharing that, but again the phenomenon may be worth keeping in mind.

As for myself, a female Pfizer recipient: after shot #1, nothing to note; after shot #2, 24 hours of muscle aches and fever (peaking at an oral temperature of 38.6), returning to normal after slowing my day to the pace of a tree-sloth. No noticeable effect on my subsequent cycle after either shot. I supplemented with Chinese herbs from a Swiss TCM practitioner the first time around, not the second time.

Re: Anybody got the second Moderna shot without sideeffecs?

No fever, no pains, just a bit light-headed, so pretty much the same as the first one. Staying home for the day (like after the first one).

Will see how my wife is doing when she wakes up.

Tom

P.S. Same for her, no real problems.
