Is that for a one way journey?

And, no, the UK should open up to all double vax residents of the EU/CH. They can download the check app from the apple/play store.

I generally agree, the government can easily bat these away since vaccination status shouldn't be based on nationality but on risk.

Was surprised that it applies only to UK residents - very different to the EU / Switzerland.

I don't know how they would track whether you are a resident - ask for some kind of document with your address on it? I doubt holidaymakers will be taking any document like that...

Not sure why it focuses on expats? What does our nationality have to do with anything.

They don't like the favouritism to British residents (with NHS vaccinations) but want favouritism to be extended to all British citizens. All the other foreigners can still stay at home.
Not so dissimilar to what Switzerland was doing.

During the height of the lockdown Switzerland and Germany basically mutually set up a system that said dual citizens could cross the border as often as they wanted but nobody else could.

But we were always told to believe politicians were following the science so I'm sure there must be some scientific explanation why dual citizens don't spread the virus.

Maybe there are fishermen out there who will take passengers? The ones who aren't too busy bootlegging ham sandwiches to Holland that is.

Re: Petition to allow UK ex-pats into the UK

Bear in mind that most countries have laws which allow residents and / or citizens unrestricted entry. And most are working under temporary laws brought in very quickly for the pandemic.

That combination probably leads them to tread very carefully on resident / citizen rights, lest a legal challenge bring down the whole emergency law structure.

Whereas foreigners are usually not protected from border laws and can be kept out fairly easily without too much worry that the courts will do anything (quickly) about it.

The UK already has one law that was struck down. https://www.scotsman.com/news/people...ictory-3178565. They've not been careful.

Although I could see why they've done this (non recognition of Indian vaccine in the EU), I'm just going to ignore it if I visit the UK. Its unenforceable legally.
Have I understood you correctly? Are you saying that if you visit the UK you will ignore the quarantine requirement if it is still in place at that time?

Re: Petition to allow UK ex-pats into the UK

My trip to Scotland has now had to be rescheduled to October about a fortnight ago as our flights were cancelled again. I'm not holding out getting there tbh, if we have to quarantine there's no point. For a start NHS Tayside has reported they have a number of unvaccinated 18-29 year olds in ICU and have had to open another ward for them and cases have ramped up in Lothian and Fife again.

I don't know what I'd do without my sister looking after our house, plan last year was to get it freshened up and rented out so we're losing a small fortune, premium rate for the area as it's on a private gated development. That's life at the moment

Dear everyone, CALM DOWN!

Grant Shapps has already said that foreign vaccines will be recognised soon with an announcement due “within the next couple of weeks”. No need for petitions or panic, just patience. Nothing to do with Brexit or Little England

It’s really frustrating, as has been the UK’s entire Covid travel policy this year. I also think there’s a certain level of cynicism involved in trying to get people to spend their savings and furlough money on holidays in the UK. I’ve had to bin a number of planned visits but I think there’s light at the end of the tunnel now. The EU only started recognising the Swiss vaccine passport this week after all.

Why should we calm down when UK government are clearly screwing up, yet again! Why didn't they just announce they'd accept the EU vaccine certificate in the first place, absolutely no reason why not! Or indeed those of any other country with a similar program. There's nothing scientific about it, a moderna jab in Switzerland is the same as a moderna jab in UK

Maybe they learned from the experience...

Oh - they're politicians, sorry I was being silly

Anyway that case was against a different government, so not so relevant for the UK government.
