Oncologist near Nyon.

I have become completely fed up with the jokers at the Genolier clinic. I won’t bore you with the details but I want to move on.

So as the title says can anyone recommend a oncologist along La Côte tthat seems to know what s/he is doing?

Started as Prostate now spreading to the Sternum.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

So so sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Would you not be better with someone at HUG?

OH is followed by great Urologist at La Source in Lausanne, Dr Cerontola. He speaks English.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

Not sure if this helps much but I have lived in the same area as you for years. For anything serious I head straight for Geneva or Lausanne. Even my GP is in Geneva. Nyon, and in particular the hospital is only for minor things due to its convenience only. I know too many people, self included, who've had issues with the local offerings on too many occasions. You have 2 big university hospitals and a number of private ones , both within 30 minutes or less in both directions. Not really an inconvenience and many specialists in all fields. Some of them world class specialists as well.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

My great uncle is facing a somewhat similar situation, starting with prostate which spread to the bladder. He’s happy with the care he’s getting at CHUV.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

Prostate and bladder are closely linked. The sternum is not, and according to my resident doctor, the spread from prostate to sternum very unlikely.

Hope you get someone you can trust and will help and support you and find best options forwards.

Merde- as we say in French, and in both senses (Sh*t and bonne chance).

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

I think the Cantonal hospital in St. Gall is considered cutting edge for oncolgy in Switzerland although it is a bit far from Welche land.

Unfortunately i have no names for you though.

That’s interesting. Why is unlikely to spread to the sternum?

Bone is the most common site for metastasis from prostate cancer so why not the sternum bone?

I’m sorry I have no personal recommendations for you Bowlie but a friend has been very happy with Dr Marie-Laure Amran at HUG.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

As said, Dr Cerantola at La Source in Lausanne is highly recommended (urologist) - he works closely with urology and oncology at CHUV (Lausanne). Out-patient treatment is included in basic insurance- but any operation there is not covered by basic (as we found out in an emergency!)- but he used to work at CHUV and regularly operates as part of team there- a specialist in robotic surgery.

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. They are heart warming.

Yes - Prostate cancer spreading to the sternum is very unusual, but I can attest that it does happen. And so far it has resisted 3 rounds of radiation and one round of freezing (with liquid N), that was an experience!

I have finally managed to get a date for a further PET-CT scan that will hopefully show that the cancer hasn't spread anywhere else. If not, as expected, then it will be surgery to remove the cancerous tissues in the bone and some reconstruction. Not too challenging, I've been lead to believe. I'm fairly certain they will send me to the CHUV for that, which is good news.

I thank god that I am in Switzerland and have our health insurance. I really hate to think would have happened if I was elsewhere.

Thank you again for all of your sentiments. This is the first thread I've started where I haven't been groaned!

Re: Oncologist near Nyon.

As I have a family member impacted I remember reading that HUG was trying to establish a Prostate cancer Centre of Excellence. I found this link, I cannot vouch for them personally:
https://www.hug.ch/en/centre-cancers...-cancer-center

I also read there is a new drug close to approval for metastatic prostate cancer close to approval, may be worth asking an oncologist about it:
https://www.urologytimes.com/view/fd...tion-for-mcrpc

Hope it helps, wishing you all the best over the internet
