DON'T DO STEROIDS! (warning - strong images)

A very graphic reason why you don't want to do steroids
Scary

Perhaps you should say don't "misuse" steroids. Steroids are also safely prescribed for medical conditions.

Yup, I take steroids every day. But the side effects do include getting bad skin and that's only at the properly assessed medical level. If you take into account that a daily dosage of corticosteroids of more than 15mg a day is considered quite a lot, I don't even want to know what THIS guy was taking and what long-term damage he managed to do...

Yes of course - that's why I said "do steroids".
Too many folks in the gym or on the track or whatever just think in terms of whatever "performance" they can gain by "doing" the stuff.

My father had a prescription for steroids due to a series of ilnesses. But I safely presume that the dosage was in no way even remotely close to what that bodybuilder was taking.

Even infants take pedia-pred for croup.

Maybe somebody can also tell us how much of that "muscle" is actually water. I also had to take prednisone once for swelling and I gained about 10 lbs of water weight almost immediately. Off the prednisone, water gone.

As well as the obvious gross out factor of this, I cannot believe that a 21 year old could lose this much muscle tone and become so flabby in only 6 weeks. His actual health and physical condition must have been terrible with only the steroids giving him his physique.

Re: DON'T DO STEROIDS! (warning - strong images)

Well his were anabolic-androgenic steroids, which as far as I remember my bio-medical-exam thingy is different from corticosteroids. It is generally known that prednisone (and the like) makes people gain weight (unless you are prepared to put some serious effort into it, just to prove your doctor wrong ). It also has a tendency to atrophy muscle and encourage fat deposits in the torso and face, hence the "moon-face" aspect of prednisone patients.

Anabolic-androgenic steroids are derived from testosterone and work on protein synthesis in the muscle, so I'm not sure they'd make you gain water weight but I do know that women with slightly too many "male" hormones in their blood tend to get acne, it being the main reason for adult acne.

Ok, that may all be wrong, I tend to promptly forget info after the exam is over, I need the storage space!

The steroids taken for medical reasons (e.g., asthma, etc.) are far different than anabolic androgenic steroids that are taken by bodybuilders and others to gain muscle-mass! Otherwise, my asthmatic sister would be growing a beard!

Re: DON'T DO STEROIDS! (warning - strong images)

Just bringing this thread back up following a pm from a member asking me where he can get steroids - I don't take steroids because I am a bodybuilder, I take them because otherwise my body will destroy its organs and my joints would ache all the time (as opposed to most of the time). Thankfully I am able to skip them a lot of the time these days but I still feel the effects several months after coming off them.

So just to re-iterate - DON'T do steroids. Really don't.

Should've brought some Clearasil!

Does anyone else have doubts that his muscle mass went from A to C in only 6 weeks!

But agreed, don't do steroids kids, leave it to the pros (NFL, Athletics etc ;-)

I second this, I can image that degree of muscle loss perhaps after 6 months but 6 weeks! To build up to what he had in A would have taken several years of intense training and then to stop cold turkey and transform back to joe blogs in 6 weeks is a bit of a stretch me thinks.

It doesn't say six weeks. The first photo was taken when the chap was at his ideal image (according to the caption) - probably after doing his weight stuff to provide extra blood to the muscles and perhaps after being a bit dehydrated, too.
Notice that there's no acne. It could have been taken a year before the second picture.

Wow. That's put me off for good (not that I was ever "on", but y'know).

If it's from the lancet I believe the timescale (though yes, it is incredible).

So, one could suffer from gruesome acne and scarring, violent tempers and mood swings (just to name a few) but still people insist on using the stuff. Why you may ask? Well, because without it there is just no way one can be competition ready.

Most of these people are addicted to the stuff. Plain and simple.
Their life is one single body-building obsession.

As with any addicts, a rational discussion about the drug with the addict is not possible.
They either realize it themselves or they die.

Good grief!
Man, am I glad that my "doping plan" at the moment consists of a couple of squirts of salt water up my nose!
