Specialist Contact Lens - Getting Them Made.

OK,
I have a rare form of stigmatism, which requires me to wear hard (gas perm) contact lens.
I have a very specific prescription for each eye & Moorfields specialist eye hospital in London have always had my lens made.
Trouble is now living over here, a replacement takes absolutely ages from them as they say they cannot send it abroad (so it has to go to my folks first who then forward them & it's a real headache - timewise & also one delivery got held at bloody customs for almost a month ).

I have all my prescription details from them, but the script is too 'off piste' to deal with by the regular opticians here, just as it is in the UK.

So, my question is: Does anybody know/have experience of a more specialist eye clinic/lab etc, that might be able to deal with it.

(Just to save people wasting their time - please don't recommend the regular 'high street' opticians - been there, done that - unless of course, you really do actually know for sure that they do strange CL scripts.)

Thanks.

If you find out please let me know as I am in the same boat. Have a condition called keretaconus so I need Gas Perm lenses. Bought 3 sets before moving here, but I do tend to lose them every-so-often.

You could call Vis-U-Lens, Mrs. Kathrin Wichert, at +41 44 211 40 50 to see if they can help you. She readjusted my prescription for semi-rigid / gas-perm lenses, and during the conversation she mentioned that she can handcraft lenses. Maybe a call would be worth a shot?

Re: Specialist Contact Lens - Getting Them Made.

On thing you could try (while you are also looking elsewhere) would be to contact the eye hospital in Lausanne (Jules Gonin Hospital). It is connected with the CHUV (Vaud University Hospital). They are the eye experts in the French speaking part of the country.

On the home page you will see a contact button. I would aks for their help and give them all of your information/technical details on your lenses and ask if they could give you the name of a supplier based in Switzerland. Explain that the current lenses were custom made in the UK. They may even have an inhouse service.

I would just take your chances and write in English but be clear about what you need.

For those who need specialized hard lenses in Zurich, Eye-Light should be able to help you. http://www.eye-light.ch/

(I have no affiliation with Eye-Light)

Re: Specialist Contact Lens - Getting Them Made.

Even though an old thread but probably useful for many.
I recently ordered speciality lenses for my eyes (hard RGP ones) due to keratoconus.
Here is the rough costs till now
Eye and lens sizing - CHF 300
First lens for fitting - CHF 70
This is where I went https://www.import-optik.ch/
Since its my first time, i went to the shop in person
Once I have more data, I will update further.

Re: Specialist Contact Lens - Getting Them Made.

I go here and the total price is similar and the service good:

https://www.ottlens.ch/

I get keratoconus lenses paid on the medical insurance unlike glasses.

Also something good to know. If the prescription includes a "MiGel" number (in my cases 25.02.03.00.1), all such costs get covered under the Basic insurance of upto CHF 630 per case
