How long does it take

My fiance and I are planning on getting married soon (he's Swiss, I'm American). I was wondering how long it will be until I can legally work after we get married? Has anyone been through this before?

Re: How long does it take

As soon as you're married, basically. Your B permit, which will be issued shortly after the wedding, entitles you to work without worrying about quotas, etc. Any work permit, etc. is simply a formality.

You can start to job hunt when you'd like, and tell them you'll be available after the wedding - and just let people know you're married to (marrying) a Swiss national. No problems.

Re: How long does it take

just a hint: If potential employers ask you for your stay don't just let them know you have a B, also stress that you have a B as a spouse of a swiss citizen. The law says that any job must be given to a Swiss/EU Citizen and only if there is nobody available a C and then a B (and so on) permit holder could be considered. But if you have a B because you are married to a Swiss, you don't fall under that contigent, in this aspect you will be treated like a swiss.

Good luck in findig a job!

This is something I did not hear before -- time to update my CV! I always attach my permit with my applications though, and it states the purpose of the permit.

I had to wait two and a half months for my permit to arrive. However, the canton of Aargau stated specifically that I could look for work. You only need to tell the employer to contact the canton to confirm your status.
