A non-resident needs to see a doctor...

Hi. I recently moved to Zurich for an internship and it's likely that i'll need to see a doctor tomorrow because i've developed a huge lump on my forehead that is concerning me.

I don't know how this works. I don't have health insurance and I'm not registered as a resident...

Can I just drop in somewhere? How much would a visit cost me? That's just baseline...there are probably costs for tests on top of the basic fee....

I'm sure this has already been brought up in previous threads but I can't find it and I'm exhausted and just want to go to bed.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I think there is a drop-in place at the Hauptbahnhof that is suppose to be good.

You are probably looking at CHF 150 for the visit then whatever for the tests or specialist visits. Since I understand that you are not yet officially here, I would suggest that you take some cash with you. I am not sure if they will offer the option of Visa or an invoice. If it is a clinic they just might offer direct debit (assuming that you have that).

The best in any event is to take some cash.

Good luck.

Drop in clinic at Zurich HB for a discussion.

If you're planning on staying for some time, you can take out a health insurance for a few days to a few months. I know www.zurich.ch (the zurich insurance company) offers this. In the long run its cheaper because then the insurance company covers all your medical expenses.

Lump on the forehead can be critical because of the proximity to the brain. See a doctor immediately. The cost is the same everywhere.

"Permanance" at Zurich main railway station is easy to find.
The experts are at the University Dermatological Clinic

but they are fussy and only want to see complex cases.

How long is this internship and how long will you reside in Switzerland?

Health insurance is mandatory and retroactive so store the bill for your future insurer. Hmm if you aren't registered at your residence and have limited means of identifying yourself, the doctor might insist on instant payment? But I'm sure they'll treat you.
