She was great with me. It was easy to get an appointment (after calling loads of other surgeries that would require me to wait months to be seen), and suggested annual check ups.
Her receptionist also speaks English | | | | | I also went to Dr Städeli when I also had difficulty finding someone, but I have to say in my experience I found her closer to the 'cold and medical' end of the scale... Fine for the annual check-ups, and I have no doubt she is very professional and experienced... and maybe it was just me! But after going to her again when I first became pregnant I still had the same opinion so decided to find another doctor who I felt far more comfortable with (unfortunately the doctor I went to isn't taking on new patients unless you're pregnant... ).
Maybe it was me as lucy.r above had a different experience, but I thought I should mention it, since you specifically asked for 'friendly and approachable'. |

Hi Jot,
I absolute feel the same, went to Dr Städeli a few years back and felt that she was great as a scientist but rather cold and unfriendly which made her look as strict and very dry in her approach to me. Nothing against a good doctor but interpersonal skills are important as well.
Have tried Dr. Mary Hug-Koronya in the past but our work times clash. Pity as she is one of the warmest and nicest gynos I have ever met!

Interesting to hear this. I didn't find her cold, though she was far less maternalistic and patronising than the gynos i'm used to in the UK... Perhaps as a biological scientist myself, my expectations are different |

| | Woman to Woman: Please help [obgyn needed in Zurich/Adliswil]
Hello ladies. I really really need your help.
Ok. I have to get myself use to the idea that I can not wait every year to go to my well known, prepared, comprehensive, Obgyn doctor in my home town. It is across the Atlantic ocean...
So, I am looking for an English speaking Obgyn in Zurich or Adliswil. I haven't had the best medical experiences here in Switzerland, I must add, and I am a little scared to get pregnant and have my baby here.
Hence, I am asking for your advice/experience on a good doctor. Please help! I would love to have your suggestion.
Thank you.

As for the being scared to get pregnant and have a baby here....don't be. Of course things are different here but there's no reason to be scared. I have heard of a few bad experiences but, for every bad, I have heard 10 amazing stories of great care, lovely hospitals, etc. I'm pregnant right now and so far I have been impressed with the level of care that I have received here. Perhaps not quite as 'warm and fuzzy' as in the States...but certainly experienced, professional, knowledgeable doctors, nurses and midwives. Pregnancy for the first time is overwhelming for anyone...especially far away from the comforts of home and family but it's good to know that it is for a finite period of time and at the end you get a baby!
Cheers,
rebecca

Hi,Congrats
I do not have any idea for Doctor in Zurich, I was also looking for a lady Doctor here in Luzern but finally got an appointment with Gyn. I was also in the same situation and was planning for baby once I go back to my country.
But I came to know from the experience of my friends that Switzerland is the best place to give birth a child, I do not have any exp. about that , but the American family in which I was working , she told me that you will get best care here, so no worries...
I am pregnant with 5 weeks .. definitely we all miss the homely care
regards

Comparing my pregnancies here to my sister in law's stateside- I had it extremely good here Both of us has had natural deliveries
* Ultrasounds at every visit (she only had 3)
* weeks stay at the hospital (she had 2 days)
* midwife that came to visit me at home (do they even have that stateside?)
Nothing to fear about, well except that last push |

Hi,
Mine is in Adliswil. She is great and speaks excellent english. We just had a baby with her help in Sanitas Kilchberg. The care and system in general in CH is very good.
Dr. med. Nadja Manneh
Kilchbergstrasse 19
8134 Adliswil
043 377 09 77 info@gynadliswil.ch
All the best.

Here the midwives deliver the babies unless their are complications. Midwifery (and the non-existence if it) in the US has been criticised by many in recent years.
The Swiss experience is like checking into a hotel for a week. Room service, tv, wireless internet...

| | | | | Midwives are increasingly popular and available in the US. But they do work with an OB most of the time, and many were trained as nurses. Actually, my sister had one 11 years ago in Pittsburgh as part of her ob/gyn practice, and a friend's daughter in North Carolina used one last year. But no, you're not going to find them everywhere. It can be hard to even find an obstetrician, sometimes.
Obstetrics is one of the most litigious areas of medicine in the US, sad to say, and the MD's pay outrageous malpractice premiums. And, some docs are getting out of it because of the malpractice premiums.

I'm a few weeks pregnant and am also trying to find a good (and friendly) OB/Gyn in Zürich. Someone on the post mentioned Dr. Barbara Rossi-Meier. Has anyone else tried her? I just went to Dr. Sandra Lerch-Zehnder on Rämistrasse. If anyone has had experience with her, please let me know. It's so hard to just pick someone without recommendations...
