Speech Pathologist and Ocupational Therapist that Speak English

Hi. I will be moving to Basel in June 2009 and I have a 3 years old son with Down Syndrome. I have been looking for information on early intervention services in English but have not found any. If anyone knows about a speech pathologist and Ocupational therapist that speak English, I would very much appeciate the information.
So far the only thing that really worries me about moving to Basel is finding the support my son needs.

Thank you!

Re: Speech Pathologist and Ocupational Therapist that Speak English

Well, no specific experience with therapists, but the doctors/specialists that we have seen so far with our son have all spoken beautiful english - even the reception desk at the children's hospital, and the dietician...

I found this http://www.t21.ch/

I would suggest emailing them...I have had great success with this in the area that my son's condition falls...they can usually find someone who can reply to your questions, in English...and we made sure we joined straight away, so we are a 'member' and so even though most of the information comes in German, we can wade through and find helpful stuff...

Also, at the Kinderspital in Kleinbasel (near Wettstein Platz) they have a good, english-speaking speech therapist.

Glad to be of help...

I think you'll find the system in Switzerland seems very good - my husband works at a Montessori school near the 'hospital/university' area in Zurich and we see groups of adults with down syndrome travelling the buses and trams, and also there is a child with down syndrome integrated into my son's class.

Re: Speech Pathologist and Ocupational Therapist that Speak English

That was exactly my next question. Is there inclusion or integration in schools, English speaking Schools? We currently live in Brasil and inclusion is the law here. MY son attends an international school in English because we move around do to my husbands job. Does anyone know or have experience with inclusion in Basel?

I was wondering if you had a name for the speech therapist at the Kinderspital, have you had personal experience with him/her?
