Hi,

I can also highly recommend a doctor called Vanessa Tatje (been a patient). She's specialized in psychology, pain treatment, burn-out prevention as well as other related topics. She's a medical doctor with a specialization in neuroscience and psychology and fluent in English! I perceived her as a very motivated, patient-focused doctor who helped me a lot!

She's located in Zurich Enge working at Praxis Freigut: http://www.freigut.ch/
When contacting the clinic directly ask for Vanessa Tatje.

Hi there, just saw a little mistake as I am seeing Dr Tatje already for a while and can also highly recommend her as a great and very dedicated doctor who always takes a lot of time for her patients. She knows exactly how it feels to be an expat as she is one herself
She just openend her own medical office in 12/14 with a new add & homepage: Zeughausstrasse 55, 8004 Zürich; tel: 078 796 13 11, dont know the landline, but email is vtatje@praxisamzeughaus.ch (but not 100% sure)….
Feel free to ask me if you need any further advice / tips, UteT

PS: just in case you also need a good english speakign GP I like Dr. Mary Kruhl at Stadelhoffen, Zürich a lot…she is really great aswell….

English speaking Psychiatrist/ Counsellor Zurich

Hello All,

Can anyone recommend the above please?

It's for my daughter and we feel due to her confidence issues she would be better talking to someone in her own language.

Thanks in advance

Darcy

Re: English speaking Psychiatrist/ Counsellor Zurich

A few years ago I had phone contact this psychologist, on behalf of someone else looking for a therapist for a young girl. I do not know whether the following info is still up-to-date, but perhaps it is a place to start.

Roberta Locher-Dworkin
Psychologist
Gemeindestrasse 26
8032 Zürich
Tel. 044 380 03 99

Nearest Tramstop Hottingerplatz on Tram 3 and 8.

Frau Locher did not, at least then, have time to offer a real, long therapy. That might make one just stop right there… but she and I spoke for a while, and I had a good impression of her.

She has a lot of contacts to other therapists, and said that if someone wanted or needed more than just one or two appointments, she would try to help by recommending someone else. In my experience, this kind of “meet once to see what the situation is and what you need” appointment can be worth the effort. If the therapist is alert, she will understand the client, and then have a fairly good idea of how to match her up with a suitable therapist. And of course, her schedule may look different by now.

This therapist is American, about 50 or so, I think, and speaks German and English.

If your daughter is interested in seeing Frau Locher, she should phone her herself (not you), and leave a message on her voicemail (if she is unable to answer the phone because she is seeing another client just then) supplying her telephone (mobile?) number, and Frau Locher will return the call.

My feeling, at that time, was that a first appointment with Frau Locher would be a good starting point.

Frau Locher was part of a discussion on TV after Michael Jackson’s death.
http://www.videoportal.sf.tv/video?i...6-f4ce075515d9

At 04:30 she speaks about her first memories of Michael Jackson.
At 08:16 you can see how attentively listens to Dieter Meier. I like this.
At 30:40 she speaks very well about Michael Jackson as a traumatised person.

Please check the costs before you commence anything. It is usual to be charged for the first appointment, even though it is just to meet and find out what the main issues are.

Typically, the medical insurance (Krankenkasse) pays for psychiatrists (because it pays for medical doctors, and psychiatrists are specialised doctors) and only under some conditions pays for psychologists (who have studied psychology). In effect, if they have a good training in psychotherapy, it often doesn’t matter, for the treatment, what their original background was. But for the medical insurance this is still deemed to be a dividing criterion. The psychologists usually know how to go about working with the medical insurance companies.

Hi Darcy,

I can personally highly recommend Dr. Vanessa Tatje, she is an English speaking Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist in Zurich and is covered by health insurance.

This is her Website: http://www.praxisamzeughaus.ch/

Vanessa D. Tatje
Zeughausstrasse 55
8004 Zürich
phone/fax:
+41 (0)43 541 45 66

I've been in various treatments throughout the years and she has been by far the best doctor I've encountered, she is really easy to talk to and truly knows what she's doing. Oh, and she has two adorable therapy dogs too (unless a patient is allergic or afraid of course)

I hope this helps!

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

In search of an english speaking psychiatrist I read that two members here recommended Dr. Vanessa Tatje. I saw her for 5 months, and wouldn’t recommend her. I found her very sympathetic but she seemed (at the time) too occupied with her private life. We all go through our ups and downs, but as a patient I don't want to take part of my therapists private problems.
Through a friend I have now found Dr. David Eldred in Zurich and am very happy with his work. I have been seeing him for 3 months and I can highly recommend him.

I can recommend Raluca Babota.

Besides individual/couple counseling & therapy, she runs also periodic workshops for personal development, parenting and birth preparation.

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

Hi there, I also asked around for loooong and luckily through many different recommendations found my current doctor (she is a psychiatrist & psycotherapeut) and I think she is reaalllyy great as extremly helpful, patient and has a high knowledge of different therapeutical options(cognitive-behavioral, but also Mindfullness, medications etc). She works in Zürich for ever ans therefore has a great network. Guess she is one of the few who gives her direct telnr so whenever you have questions (even on the weekends) you can contact her. Her name is Vanessa Tatje and homepge is: www.praxisamzeughaus.ch; she also has 2 little lovely dogs in her office, which is located in the middle of Zürich close to Stauffacher.

Hope you`re getting better soon!!!!! All the best, ute

I've been seeing her for severe depression, life coaching, and she has also seen me with my husband for couples therapy since 2015. She can be very direct, but she's good especially with handling medications. She is growing her office and has hired some new therapists. She speaks English and high german.
