Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

Hi all - I am wondering if anyone can recommend an excellent English-speaking therapist/psychologist/counsellor/etc. who is based in either Zurich or Berne. Any leads at all would be very helpful! Thanks in advance

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

Thank you for the responses. Has anyone worked with a therapist from the Jung Institute in Zurich? And if so, did you find it helpful? Please PM me if that's more comfortable for you.

Also, I'd still very much be curious to hear of any other recommendations for good English-speaking therapist in Zurich. I'm checking various forums, websites, etc., and it's hard to know who's good. Of course the success of therapy is dependent on the therapist-patient pairing, but I figure it can't hurt to start with strong recommendations Please let me know if you can, and thanks in advance!

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

No personal recommendations, but there are many results if you search the web for "Paartherapie Zürich".

Click here for five phone book entries.

An unconventional therapy offer is Paarberatung ZH which is financially supported by the churches and the city of Zurich, but it doesn't matter if you're religious.

I don't know which of the above offer couple therapy in English. Best wishes!

I recommend starting with Dr. Josef Schöpf. He's an extremely well-known psychiatrist in Zurich and speaks English very well... He does not take many new patients, but he is also extremely well connected.

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

I'm associated with the Jungian psychology field here in Zurich and can recommend a number of outstanding native English speaking therapists and psychologists in the area.

If you care to describe exactly what you're looking for you can PM me and I'll refer you to a good person. Feel free to specify language (all are multilingual), gender, and maybe what sort of help you're looking for (individual, couples, family, etc.) Most of the people I know work around Zurich but some have practices in other regions as well.

First off I can highly recommend these two (both native English speaking, PM me for their email addresses):

Deborah Egger, M.S.W.
044 926 46 66

John Hill

HI! I do not know her through therapy, however I took a weekend workshop with her and she is great! She gives individual and couple's therapy. Her name is Dr. Katy Remark, 044-451-41-26.

I hope you find someone you feel comfortable with. Remember this is key. Feel free to go meet the therapists and then decide for yourself. =)

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

I would recommend when going for a Jungian Psychologist DO NOT for one that just list Jung diploma as their qualifications. The Jung Institute gives out a list of those psychologists who are really registered with them. This registration is important.

If something goes wrong and you have gone to a person from their list they will help sort out the issues. If the person merely happens to have done a course with them and uses Jung in their advertising the Jung institute do not back their work. I have learnt to my children`s cost that checking directly with the institute is really worthwhile. There are many psychologists here in Zurich stating Jungian Psychologist that are not on the Jung Institutes list.

Also be very careful rules on confidentiality here are very different from most English speaking nations. check your psychologists personal approach to confidentiality - I would recommend getting it written even in Email before you go anywhere near one. It could save alot of problems later.

Native English speaking and a good, open and straightforward therapist is also David Eldred, Phd. in Zürich. He has a website, works not only in private practice but also at the santémed gesundheitszentrum in Zürich Wiedikon.

He's an open, straightforward and highly professional psychotherapist. He is licensed by the Canton of Zürich and all forms of psychotherapy are covered by both forms of Swiss medical insurance (he works in the same practices are psychiatrists and medical doctors). You can also just try him out one time. He will even help you with no problem find another psychotherapist, a woman for example, if you are not so comfortable with him. (don't have his telephone number right now, but see his website)

I would second the rec for Katy, though I haven't done therapy with her either.

I would also recommend Dr. Jean Watt, who is highly experienced and qualified (also a Jungian). She was very helpful in assisting me through a personal crisis, and has a wonderful bedside manner.

She practices in Zurich.

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

As a follow-up to some of the really helpful responses here, I have a question: I am looking for an English-speaking therapist who uses a cognitive-behavioral approach (or something similar). Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Re: Good English-speaking therapist/psychologist in Zurich

I don't know anyone in Zurich but i have worked with some great therapists who use slightly more alternative methods in the US. Sessions take place over skype.

I am a Psychologist myself so i can highly recommend these therapists.

PM me if you would like more details!
