Hi ellerenae,
I'm sorry, I can't specifically recommend a particular midwife, but I have a couple of links that might help you:
There is the 'Hebammen Zentrale Zürich' (link here):
amongst other things, they offer a midwife placement service. You can contact them with your requirements (i.e. English speaking) / location etc. and if you take up the services of someone they put you in touch with, they charge a fee (CHF 30 I think) for the service. You can call them for this 'Vermittlungs' service between 8-12 (weekdays, I assume) or drop them an email (if your enquiry isn't super urgent). Some midwives only cover certain areas within the city, so you may need to be more specific with your location.
There is also the Swiss midwife association here (site very slow at time of writing this, so I can't get to the actual page I wanted to give you the link to at the moment... maybe here but I'm still waiting for the page to load!), but they have searchable lists by location listing a midwife's specific skills (including languages spoken).
I hope this is helpful, failing anyone else is able to recommend someone!

I'd imagine the previous link is what you need .
But if it depends on where you are going to give birth, at the clinic I went to, all the midwives were English speakers, and a couple were native speakers.

This is my experience, too. Out of the pool of midwives the hospital had, they put me in touch with a great English speaking one. Unfortunately it was over two years ago and my addled hormone-swimming-baby-brain has forgotten her name.
I wouldn't worry, though - there are plenty around.

Hi,
Are you looking for a midwife to be with you in the hospital for the labour or a midwife to help you at home afterwards? I gave birth at Spital Zollikerberg and just had the midwives who were on shift at the time for my birth but they were all absolutely fantastic and spoke perfect english.
If you are looking for a midwife to help you with home visits afterwards then I can definitely recommend mine to you. Her name is Kathrin Pfäffli-Christen. http://www.hebamme.ch/de/elt/heb/det...t=zh&dl=0&sp=0 |

Thank you thank you! This forum is so helpful. I think I have found one now though. My hope is to do home birth, although I did have my daughter in a birth house and it was such an amazing experience, unlike my first experience in the hospital back in Canada with doctors. So I am interested in Delphys the birth house in Zurich also. Has anyone had experiences there? Thank you again

Hi ellerenae, I know a very good English speaking midwife from my birthing class. Her name is Jenny Brunschweiler from UK working for the Klinik Im Park. She is a very lovely lady and very well experienced.

She was mine too, for my pre-natal course and she and the rest of the midwives there were fantastic. The only reason I know a few of them was I had a few false alarms so I got to know them that way!

Hello!
The midwives from Klinik Im Park do not do home visits, or at least they did not when I gave birth (Oct 08).
We had to look for ours via the website provided.
Cheers,
k

elle | | | | | Elle, just my 2 cents worth
Here is Switzerland you hardly see a doctor unless there are complications.
Whether in a Klinik or Hospital, it is actually the Hebammes (midwives) who do most of the work and call a doctor just for the last part, my doctor stayed maybe for 30mins or so... and frankly they do nothing much more than be there and pull baby out...
All the support, coaching, etc is done by the midwives.
Of course it may be different in case of issues, but for straighforward deliveries, that is the case.
Just wanted to clarify so that you may want to consider other options too and not be too afraid in case you are directed to a hospital as it is really not like in countries where there are 10 doctors around you or so
Ciao

K | | | | | I heard this too, although, due to some minor complications my doctor was present for the birth of my son.
Up until that point the lovely midwife who was with me said a couple of times that they can handle births perfectly confidently and competently.
Friends of mine have had just the midwife present for their babies' births and all seem to have had a lovely experience here in Switzerland.
I also had a good experience but it got a bit tense during the labour when I think the wee fella couldn't find his way out.
