Diet Programs That Work

I’ve been struggling for years with my weight. I tried everything Jenny Craig, WightWatchers, personal trainers etc…

What worked for me finally was

http://www.calorieking.com/

I love the fact I can access it on the go via my iphone.

I have been so happy with the results that I would like to pass this tool on to others that have same issue.

This program/tool is so easy to use that even my husband is using it now.

The website is self explanatory…. watch the success story vedio on the main page.

After all these years I learned its all about calories in = to calories out and calorieking helps me track this equation with very little effort.

Keep the thread going. Share what has worked for you in Switzerland.

I have a revolutionary diet! I call it "Don't eat so friggin' much and you won't get fat".
Works fine for me, honest.

For some of us Simon, it is not so simple...But after all, it always come to how much you eat and how much you burn, unless you have an endocrine disease of course.

Re: Diet Programs That Work

I found the most useful "Diet" was changing my relationship with food. Identifiying what role food played in my life and trying to put it back to its real role - to sustain bodily functions...

(but I regulalry slip up on that - can't kick that chocolate addiction to the curb!)

Re: Diet Programs That Work

I once thought about going into diet products myself, you know, complete with cheesy american style promo video.

My product would be this amazingly effective once-a-day pill (placebo) that needs to be activated by riding 100km on this here excersize bicycle (sold separately)

I'm sure it does. And would work for everyone else too, who tries it. Even if the way you present it makes people angry, still it's the truth. To add a few points to that:

There is really no "secret". Eat less than you consume, and you'll lose weight.

I've been there myself. Most of my life I was always battling with the "overweight". I am also built so that I am "big", even without the fat, so I never recognised it as a problem. Until one day I realised that "ok, now it's a bit too much."

Whenever before I had tried being on a diet, I was always looking for a miracle which would save me. I tried and failed, many times. I always heard everywhere, that losing weight is not possible unless you change the way you live, permanently. That's the part that I always didn't want to believe. But it was true.

So the final "change" started off actually almost as an accident. I realised that I use way too much sugar in my coffee, and I thought it's bad for my teeth. So I learned to drink coffee without sugar. The surprise was, that coffee actually has a taste of its own, but even a bigger surprise was -6kg! That was my first clue. PERMANENT change, in the way I live, not even a big one, and -6kg. What else could there be?

I then realised that I always eat something in the evening while watching tv, and why is that? When I'm asleep, I don't know if I'm hungry or not anyway. So I stopped eating in the evening. And after 1-2 months, that was another -5kg. Again, another PERMANENT change, no miracles, simply change the way you live, and in total -11kg already. Ok, so now I was getting somewhere. Again, what ELSE could there be? There must be still something.

I then realised that normally always when I eat, I eat too much. Even if it's normal food, I just eat until I feel like I could explode. Why is that? Why don't I just eat enough until my stomach says "ok, that'll do"? So I did. And the result after another 1-2 months, was again another -5kg. This wasn't even a sacrifice, I just didn't eat until I felt sick. Once more, a PERMANENT change in the way I live, resulted in another -5kg, the total being now at -16kg.

After that I took a step further, and started eating even less, I realised that if I eat only enough, so that my stomach tells me, "ok, I no longer feel like I'm that hungry", I'll lose more. So I did. I reached the total of -20kg. For the last time, by changing the way I live PERMANENTLY.

I'll still do some finetuning from here, a few more kilograms off, and then I'm again Mr. Slim. And I don't even need to "be on a diet". No miracles, no web-services, no WeightWatchers, no counting calories, no low-carbs, just change the way you live PERMANENTLY. After having done that, I don't feel any different, I enjoy my life more than I did before, I don't feel hunger (your body adjusts to your rate of eating), I'm still getting thinner, very slowly, but all the time a bit thinner. Maybe 0,5 - 1kg per month. Constantly.

I can't say how good it feels to go to a clothing store and buy clothes that say "body cut", still being several inches smaller than during the old way of life. Also occasionally getting "that look" from ladies feels really good, even when you don't want anything from them. Just the look is enough to know "I look ok again".

So once more people, please, forget all witchcraft etc, it's not rocket science. Change the things in your life, and do it little by little. That way you don't even notice it. And you will get down to normal weight. It's not rocket-science, just very basic human biology.

Re: Diet Programs That Work

Exactly, sorry for coming across a bit provocative, but that's what it all boils down to.
Nobody can be fat without eating substantial amounts of food. That would defy physics.
And I know, I know, there are people with different body types, genetic faults, some burn fat easier, not everyone is a supermodel despite being sportive and eating healthy etc etc..... all correct, but it really all boils down to how much food you eat.

I agree - I just get bugged by attitudes like your above post - like it is some big joke - we all know what should and shouldn't be done in life to be this that or the other, doesn't mean it's easy for everyone to adhere to this that and the other - but smugness from 'perfect' people doesn't help....

anyway I have gone back to bed and got back out the right side now

Re: Diet Programs That Work

Haha, ok, I agree with you, I did not only come across, I probably was a bit smug.
But then I just like to simplify things and leave out all the PC-talk, sensitivities, overcomplications of an essentially simple matter etc...
But I did expect a few groans for my post, so I am fine with that.

I actually wish it were such a simple solution.... I eat less and more healthy than i ever have and am exercising regularly weekly and I am losing weight slower than i ever have - frustrating to say the least - I blame age

No sweetie, the endocrine system regulates your metabolism . SOme people have a harder time to lose weight when they have diseases affecting it.

It's quite funny, I did not take the Simon_ch post as being smug; which is a reminder to us all to keep in perspective how a post comes across.

Isn't the saying "Eat less, live longer?".

Btw, I have a super diet plan (not long term) that consists of:
  1. Plain greek yogurt= calcium
  2. Apples = roughage
  3. Beer = taking away the cranky of the first two
It's not Dr recommended at all, but worked for me.

My personal discovery is, that you shouldn't exercise while you're on diet. I have no clue why that is, how, etc, but really doind serious exercise while on diet, somehow seems to slow down the burning of fat. I cannot explain it, but that's what I 've seen so far.

I could also be wrong, but my recommendation would be to first get rid of the fat, and then start doing exercise more seriously. Like this I would also say it's probably better for your skeleton under heavy duty, less weight - less pressure for kneecaps etc.
