Particularly Horrid first day of the "holidays"

Ok, it all started when I said we would paint after I put the baby to sleep. However, the throwing of toys onto the stone floor by the big kids, made this longer than expected, and the painting didnt happen.

Escalation, screaming, ranting, sent outside.. later in the bedroom, all toys were tipped out of all toy boxes (-i have a plan for this, the rubbish bag come soon)

meanwhile the baby is still cranky and grizzly, (aka tired, should sleep) and my nerves are shot.

This would be the perfect time to give the kids to the aunts, uncles, grand parents.. unfortunately they are all overseas.. (do i hear you say, courier post or air mail?)

SOOOOO... to cheer myself up, I found these useful messages:

I hope your days are going better, and you may be encouraged by these messages.

a nice song on youtube..

And a short story
An honoured guest was invited to hand out prizes at an end of school ceremony. The hall was full with pupils, their parents and teachers. They were all cheering as each winner was approaching the stage.

‘The first prise for English goes to…’ A young girl approaches the stage hesitantly.
‘And the first prise for physics…’ A skinny boy shakes the guest’s hand, to the cheers of the crowd.
‘The prize for excellence across the board goes without any questions to….’ And a happy, confident girl comes forward.
And so it went on and on, with a parade of proud youngsters being congratulated and handed impressive looking books.

Once all was quiet again, the guest approached the head teacher and asked:
‘You have been around for a while, haven’t you? And you must have seen many school reunions.’
‘Yes’, confirmed the headmaster’, Indeed I have.’
‘I was curious to know what happens to all the kids who don’t win any prizes. The ones who never come top at things. What happens to them?’
‘Oh, these kids…’ The head teacher paused. ‘The kids who don’t win any prises usually end up managing the ones who do’.

This is hillarious. I wonder if she just runs through this routine at breakfast and is "done" with the notorious mom nagging for the day

Sadly true indeed. I'm just glad my mum wasn't like that!

My trick for that - "I come into your room(s) in 10mins and I'll throw away all the the toys that are still on the floor!!!" (Plus kids didn't get the evening "well done" mark into their week-calendar and that meant that they couldn't have a treat on Sunday). I didn't have to throw away anything(they probably knew me enough to know I'm serious), but after some time we still let them to sort out themselves some toys for the poor kids.

About co-operating - no TV or a favourite toy for a WEEK if this behaviour won't stop has worked on every kid!

BTW Great video!!!

Just buy a wolfmask and tell them if they don't do as you say you'll send a half human half wolf into their rooms in the night and it will wake them up by growling deeply. Unethical but worked on me until I was at least 15...

Re: Particularly Horrid first day of the "holidays"

goodness, i didn't know that this thread was still alive and kicking..

trikk - we have lost a variety of toys to the "rubbish monster" which tidies up after the kids have cleared "everything they want to keep", including a remote control car.. We also haven't had a TV since about July - note to self - no footballs in the house.

things seem to have calmed down here a lot though. a lot due to "the baby" requiring less attention - baby is now 9 months old and can fend for herself a lot more, so the "big kids" (4 & 6) get some of mummys time back.

did lose my voice the other night though - "don't throw train tracks at your sisters head!" said at 120 dB

aawww come on.. life would be boring if they were little goodie two shoes all the time.
