Cost of an Educational Psychologist

I need EF's help. Our International school have arranged for a UK trained educational psychologist and native english speaker to assess our twin boys next week. They are saying that this cost or a part of it will be covered by our Health Insurance, in our case SWICA. I have heard from other sources that this is covered by the local School Gemeinde. Has anyone got any experience on this, before I try and find out whether the cost will be paid.

Re: Cost of an Educational Psychologist

We have just used an English-speaking psychologist for an assessment of our son. In our case our health insurance will pay some of the cost (in Zurich around CHF 1500). I believe the school would normally refer children to the local eduction psychologist and this cost would be borne by the school, however the assessment would obviously be in the local language. This is probably the reason that your costs will be borne (hopefully) by your medical insurance as you need an English assessment.

Why would/should the medical insurance reimburse? Your sons are not ill.

Goldtop - good point, but there could be underlying issues that need to be tested. As Kloster girl said her Medical insurance contributed to their cost. The other option is the school Gemeinde, since it is to do with the schooling. The guy is wanting EU 650 per child, so if I can get it paid or a contribution towards, it would be appreciated.

People with non Swiss insurance can get coverage for psychiatric evaluations even if they are related to school. The brain is the brain.

We have US insurance and all of that is covered for us, after the deductible anyway.

Still Goldtop is correct about the school covering things. Of course check an see who actually pays for it. I discovered that the school pays for it by putting it on your insurance. A bit of a surprise to me but, whatever. :rolleyes"

Brian.
