| | How did you find your Doctor?
Hello moms and moms to be,
Recently I performed the Home Pregnancy test and found that I am Pregnant ( according to the test )
I searched in forum about the English speaking Gynecologist, and tried to contact them .
I found a list of gynecologist in Luzern on doctors.ch , I do not know how many of them do speak English, but any how I tried to contact them for an appointment both by sending emails and by phone , but in both the cases I did not get any response.
Its the first time I missed my period and going to have baby, I am confused and scared also . I am not in my country and do not have any one to suggest me,
I would like to request moms and pregnant ladies to help me in getting an appointment for pregnancy check-up.
Please share with me ,how did you managed to get an appointment from your gynecologist.
I live near Haldenstrasse , Luzern . .
Please help me.
thanks ,
regards
Sanju

Hi Sanju
Mine was recommended to me by my "Hausarzt". I would give you the number, but this is in Zurich.
I have checked on the internet and I can see the following doctors in Lucern who speak English: http://julesgrueter.gyndoc.ch/
and here are more: http://www.gynweb.ch/de/search/resul...e=5&geschlecht=
(I just filled in "English" and "Luzern", and this is what the search engine came up with).
Good luck!

Dear Sanju
Congatulations
I'm not pregnant but my doctor speaks English so I am sure he can refer you to an English speaking gynae. Will PM you the full address and phone number.
Best of luck finding someone!

Sanju | | | | | Hi Sanju
We found ourselves in exactly the same situation last month when we worked out that we were pregnant. Luckily we have an Obstetrician who lives across the road from us in Cham.
There are heaps of Obstetrician listed on doctors.ch and I am sure once they get back from the Christmas break most would be happy to see you. Of course you want the piece of mind of knowing if you are pregnant or not but it won't hurt medically not knowing for sure over the Christmas period unless of course you went of a binge of alcohol and drugs to supplement your Christmas pudding and turkey.
In my experience 95 % of ALL doctors will speak English but the receptionist might not and that can be the stumbling block!
If you fancy a 20 minute drive to Cham our Doctor is called Dr. Gisin and he is located in Dorfplatz 4 Cham. Booking an appointment was simple and incredibly quick. We went there last week for the first time and before we knew it was seeing a ultrascan of our baby... The doctor emailed to me 16 pictures of our package 2 hours later and emailed us the blood test results a day later to confirm that everything looked normal.
I hope that this helps in some way but remember that pregnancy tests are notoriously accurate now a days and chances are that you really are pregnant. Having a baby is not an illness and not going to the doctors for a few days is not going to be cause any harm (obviously you should still make an appointment as soon as possible).
Good luck
I'm a Dad to be not a Mom...

Hi Paul,
Congrats and thanks a lot for your reply , I really needed those kinds of words, I can go to Cham for the doctor, but , just wanted to know whether I need to stick with the same doctor throughout pregnancy or I can switch to another doctor in case I want.
I know , it will not be good idea to change a doctor but as I want some one near by my house, I got 2 doctors at Haldenstrasse , Luzern but as you said I need to wait for their response .
Thanks again | Quote: | | | | | Hi Sanju

If the line's there, it's there and can only be caused by the hormones. A "false" negative (i.e. no line), however, could also be a "positive" result, as it may be too early to tell.
So, Congratulations!
I'm sure you'll find a good gyni/doctor to see you through. And if you're in any way uncomfortable, don't hesitate to change. Enjoy your pregnancy.

This site lists all the doctors here in Switzerland - narrowed it down for you for gynaes in Kanton Luzern. http://www.doktor.ch/gynaekologen/gy...ogen_k_lu.html
Are you registered with a GP yet? Best to go see him / her in the new year and he/she might be able to recommend you someone. Alternatively, any expat friends who already have a gynae in Luzern? Its always easier to go to a doctor whom you know someone had a good experience with.
Some really good gynaes here in Zurich are closed for taking new patients, which might unfortunately happen for Luzern as well. Your best bet is to look through the list, and start with the ones closest to your home and give them a call for a quick chat.
Good luck and congratulations.

That might explain why they are not getting back to you. I had an emergency and needed to call around, listening to all their telephone messages until I found one that was open in the morning only.
The first pregnancy checkup here is normally at 8-9 weeks, so you have a few weeks yet. They can see you earlier if necessary. You can actually see the little heart beating from 6 weeks - truly amazing.
I wouldn't listen to other people's opinions on a gyno. Many people have said bad things about mine, but I have found her great. Mine only took on new patients for pregnancy too.
Congratulations! Enjoy.

I looked up the doctors that were conveniently located in my area in the phone book, made a list and chose a name, rang and asked the nurse if she and the doctor in question spoke English and as it turned out they did, so I made an appointment, decided at first sight I liked the doc and he was linked to the clinic I intended using. I had been prepared to work my way through list until I was satisfied but didn't need to. It worked for me, I had no-one to help either but would rather go by my instinct than a recommendation anyway.

Hi, MarieZug,
thanks a lot for your advice.
I know, I can wait for a few weeks.I did my home test on 30 th of December and found it positive, My 1st day of last period was 27 th November and it is 28 day cycle.
And since then I am reading everything about Pregnancy, early signs, etc on Net. Except the result of the home test kit, I am not feeling any thing , that I am pregnant, I am not facing any morning sickness, Nausea, Breast tenderness or, swing of mood or any thing like this.
I just wanted to know from experience of mothers whether this is normal or I really need to visit a doctor immediately .
Your valuable experience is much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

I got loads of sickness with my son but not with my daughter. I didn't feel or look pregnant until 6 months with my second baby.
You only need to see a doctor right away if you get cramping or spotting. My last pregnancy was like this and the doctor did weekly scans from 6 weeks to check everything was okay and gave me progesterone to help sustain the pregnancy. From 13 weeks I had a normal pregnancy again. My little girl was born 2 months ago.
