Hi, I am a british trained speech and language therapist currently working in London. My husband has been offered a job in Zurich and we are looking to move. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any demand for english speaking SLTs in Zurich- I don't speak German. Also does any one have any suggestions as to how I might go about finding work?

I work at a small bilingual school in zurich and know that we sometimes require recommendations for English language speech therapists. I would get in touch with International and bilngual english speaking schools to see if there is a demand.

It might also be useful to get your name down with the Swiss Epilepsy Centre www.swissepi.ch. They also have a diagnostic clinic there, which is used by a lot of the international schools in the Zurich area for assessment of English speaking children (for learning problems, not epilepsy). I was referred there by my paediatrician and subsequently sought speech therapy for my son. Only one English speaking speech therapist could be found and this lady was based on the opposite side of the Lake (i.e. not the Gold Coast). For your information, the charge for a session (45 mins to 1 hour) is CHF 145.00.

I'm currently living in Zurich, and have no idea what the market looks like in London. Is there a demand for speech therapists? And what kinds of fields exist in the branche? you could ask at the "Kinderspital Zürich", that's the childrens hospital atatched to the University Hospital link . Unfortunately, the information about "Logopädie" is only in german but on the bottom of the site you find the Email-address of the responsible person

Hi, I'm an American trained speech-language pathologist whose husband is being transferred to Zurich. It appears that there are opportunities for British SLP's but wondered if anyone knows an American SLP in Zurich and if the opportunities may be different for myself as compared to someone in the EU. Though I have reciprocity in England, I do not in Switzerland. Does anyone know how this may effect my ability to work?

Hi Annie, I am also an American trained Speech and Language Pathologist and have worked in a hospital in Geneva. I applied for the job and the my employer applied for a work permit for me. So really each case is individual and if an employer wants you they can apply for a work permit for you. Don't be influenced by general opinion, apply for what you want and it may work for you. I live in Seefeld and I am looking for a speech therapist nearby or to come to my home. I am having difficulties finding someone who is local and who can see my son later on in the afternoon (all appointments clash with my working hours) - or on Saturdays? Would appreciate any suggestions.
