Can anyone recommend an English speaking midwife that can assist in the Baden area?

The best way we found was to ask the Hebamme in the hospital which on the list speaks English. Cunningly enough, we actually got one who speaks Mom's mother tongue too

Re: Midwife in Baden area; English speaking?

Just resurrecting this thread to ask whether anyone has any recent first hand recommendations of English speaking midwives here in the Baden area?

The link provided by Boxman is really useful but I'm sure there must be more midwives in the area that those that are listed.

Re: Midwife in Baden area; English speaking?

Hi Violete,
From what we've been able to gather, it seems to be normal here to find for yourself a suitable midwife that is available around you due date. After being automatically assigned a midwife in England with our first child, it came as a bit of a surprise to find that we have to arrange it ourselves over here. The habamme.ch website that boxman linked to in his earlier post seems to be the best resource for finding a midwife speaking a particular language.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to get in touch, my wife may be able to answer some other pregnancy related questions you may have or generally reassure you about things here.

Don't worry too much about the language aspect in the hospital though... my wife's spoken to many women that have given birth in Baden hospital and they've all had positive experiences. Also, most people here are willing and able to try to speak to you in English, especially if you've made an effort to try to speak to them in German first so I'm sure you'll find that it'll all be fine when the time comes.

One of my neighbours happens to be a midwife in Baden Kantonspital. I don't know how good midwife she is, but a nice and friendly neighbour. She speaks in English as well.

Re: Midwife in Baden area; English speaking?

Hi Alison,

Have you looked at other places than just Baden in the Hebamme website? There's at least 2 listed in Lenzburg that speak English and Anita Kaufmann in Wurenlos does as well by the looks of it. Most of the midwives we contacted were quite happy to travel a bit (they can claim it as an expense... watch out for that as our insurance didn't cover it). We just fired of emails to any midwifes on the Hebamme website listed as speaking English and which were within about 6-7km (with more than a little help from Google maps) until we found one (Lynnett Valentini) that was available.

Good luck with the search and hope all goes well when the time comes

Hello,

I strongly recommend Susanne Grylka, who was my midwife for both births. She is very helpful and knowledgable. She also works part time in Kantonspital Baden as breast feeding consultant.

She is listed on the page shared in the previous post.

Wish you all the best with the coming new family member!
