Why was I groaned at for this?

I am going to guess it is becasue of the slightly sarcastic tone or possibly the 100% turn around from your original post. You don't really help yourself on this forum at all

Re: Had an MRI yesterday; damn those machines are small

Can somebody spell vindicated for me?

Anyway, back on topic: It was an MRI scan a couple of years ago that changed my attitude to life completely. I'd been sent to the clinic to have a 'mass' investigated... it turned out to be nothing important, but the sense of relief at getting the negative result was, quite simply, life-changing. That would never have happened without the MRI scan.

I also rather enjoyed the stuff with which they inject you beforehand. Like intravenous whisky... I'd go back just for that!

Dunno about people, but you get special treatment if you're a horse.

Re: Had an MRI yesterday; damn those machines are small

There are two kinds of MRI's - the traditional tube and something called an open MRI, which is the table kind - and the open one is good for people who are large, have their limbs at weird angles or suffer from extreme claustrophobia.

My MRI experience from last August...certainly not so much fun...the cost was under CHF1,000 - very surprising...

Read about my experience in my blog...

That's the 1 had for my shoulder. Probably because I had to have my arm extended at a certain angle to get the best image. I've got some pics of it somewhere (my shoulder, not the machine).

I had an MRI in England a while ago. It is surprising how small they are, and loud. I wasn't fully prepared for the loud bangs that happen. Risking some groans I seriously don't know how the really fat people fit into them.............or women with massive breasts.

Had ear protectors; funny thinking the same thing; with that image of the huge guy sitting half in half out in an airplane seat the other month; he would never fit in this machine.
How would we ever find out without FoxNews?

275-Pound Woman Says Hospital Told Her to Use Zoo MRI

"Ragan’s problem was two-fold: She was too heavy for the table and too wide to slide through the opening.
Medical Imaging in Kansas City North, which has both closed and open MRI machines can typically hold up to 440 pounds, but sometimes a person who weighs less can still be out of luck, according to an MRI technician.
“It depends on how they are built a lot of times and what part of their body we’re scanning,” said technician Sarah Abbott of Medical Imaging. “(The machine) can only be so open before the magnetic field dissipates into the room.”"

Re: Had an MRI yesterday; damn those machines are small

My MRI scan found the exact location of the two discus hernias (slipped disks) in my neck. They'd be diagnosed by a neurological specialist with a couple of pins, which was pretty impressive, but the scan confirmed the diagnosis, and gave the surgeon who operated on me valuable information.

At the time of the scan, I was suffering nausea because of the morphine I was on. Only the fact that I had a panic button prevented me from panicking in the confined space... I managed to hold everything down until the scan finished, and made it to the sink...

I think this is a grea tool to detect a problem in the body
and it can save lives,so to me it is precious.
As a Migraine person i had one done in 05,after been in the ER for
8 hours,as my primecare physician was very concern after a weird incident
it turn out nothing was there,so i will say thank you to the MRI to give me
such a fast answer and allow me to spend a new year evening 2005 feeling
alright.

Did you go to Cham by any chance? The Klinik in Cham has the oldest MRI equipment that i've seen. The machines there are tiny and very noisy compared to the machines my BIL works with in Sydney (director level in radiology/MRI at a Sydney hospital). The Zug hospital has gone through a complete upgrade though.

I too had one recently- for diagnosing a knee injury. Cost was around 400 CHF, which I thought was very reasonable.

Re: Had an MRI yesterday; damn those machines are small

Absolutely can't and won't though I've tried and tried.
The claustrophobia is overwhelming

But..... wonderful news is.... if anybody else out there is like me..... now they have "open" MRIs. What a sincere relief !

And like DB, I must also say that the result was also a relief.
