How to find a gyn/ob with basic insurance

Hello everyone!
I am moving in Zurich being deeply pregnant. So I'll have only basic insurance. I am choosing an insurer right now (maybe vivao sympany) and wondering, do the range of doctors covered by various insurers differ? I mean, how should I choose my gyn/ob for assisting in my last pregnant months? Should I just open doctor.ch and make an appointment with anyone in Zurich canton?? Is each and every gyn/ob covered with basic insurance of every insurer?
I don't quite understand this insurance system.. Maybe I should go to the hospital and not to the private doctor..
I'm wondering a bit beforehand because you know being pregnant I'd like to have a complete understanding where I'll go if I need help.

please, advise anybody

Things may have changed in the last few years, but I'm fairly certain last time I looked, even on the basic, you got a choice of gyn/ob docs.

Re: How to find a gyn/ob with basic insurance

I'm no expert, but this was my experience.

I was also pregnant when signing up for health insurance, so I received basic cover. I searched doctor.ch for an OB/GYN in my town. When filling out the forms at the office, there was a checkbox for basic or private cover, and I had to sign something that said "basic" only paid for 3 ultrasounds in the pregnancy. I suppose some doctors may only take private patients, but I don't know anything about this. Ask when you call/stop by to schedule an appointment.

The entire birth was also covered under the basic insurance, but the hospital stay was general ward (up to 3 per room in my case) unless we wanted to pay extra for a private room. I gave birth in Sanitas (in Kilchberg), and it was amazing. I highly recommend the hospital.

Best of luck!

Re: How to find a gyn/ob with basic insurance

I also moved here 6 months pregnant, and signed up for basic cover. I just brought all of my records from home and scheduled my first appointment at the Unispital in Zurich where I planned on giving birth.

All of my check-ups were held there right up to the birth, which was a wonderful experience and completely covered by the insurance. I even returned there for my post-birth 6-week check-up rather than schedule an appointment with a private Dr. and it was fine. I almost always saw a different Dr., so if that bothers you it may be something to consider. I figured they were all very, highly qualified medical experts and didn't really mind that.

Where are you moving and do you know which hospital you will use for the birth?

Thanks for your replies, they are really helpful!

thebrynster,
I'm moving to Birmensdorf (Dietikon). So I'm thinking about Triemli as it's not far away, but I'd also like to see Unispital and maybe Sanitas in Kilchberg. I've heard that there are information days in hospitals, they might be helpful for choosing the one.
Maybe it will be more effective for me also not to loose time and make an appointment with the hospital without seeing the private doctor as I'm already 30weeks. But I'm not sure that all hospitals assist with prenatal checkups...

By the way what is your choice: GP or standard insurance cover? Which one is better with all the maternity things?

Re: How to find a gyn/ob with basic insurance

A bit off topic but it sticks to the title.
Is the annual check at the gyn (includin laboratory tests) covered by pasic health insurance.
I have sent the bills to the insurance (franchige already paid) and they have simply ignored the bills. I will contact them on Monday, is there something I shall know before that?

No I don't think so - at least not for me - I have the most basic of the basic insurance. It's treated the same as if you visit the doctor for something. So depends on your policy - I guess if you have private insurance then they cover everything, but for me I pay the first 1500CHF anyway.

As you will be in Birmensdorf also check out the hospital in Affoltern an Albis; there is a maternity ward there too.

Hi. My wife just gave birth in Triemli 4 weeks ago. We considered Unispital, Horgen and Triemli. But went for Triemli as it's set in beautiful surroundings with view up Uetliberg. It's also not as busy as Unispital so the care was very personal. My wife was pleasantly surprised by the quality of staff compared to our first birth experience in Chelsea. We can wholeheartedly recommend Triemli.
