Seeking advice regarding ADHD medications

Hello All!

My son is currently being treated for attention deficit in Canada. He is on a medication called Biphentin. Does anyone know whether this drug is available in Switzerland?

Would we be able to get medical insurance for him that would cover his ADHD medication, or would this be impossible due to his 'preexisting condition'? And if so, are ADHD drugs expensive in Switzerland?

Thanks to anyone who might offer some insight.

Heidi

It will be covered with your basic compulsory health insurance. The gap for a child on some things will be 10% - you might end up paying around 70-100 chf a month for your compulsory health insurance for one child, plus a gap of 30-50chf a month on the medication and regular paediatric appointments etc...

There's no reason why your son's medication won't be available - and I've tried 6 pharmacies so far and they all had staff who could speak english.

You will see a Paediatrician regularly for your son...that is the norm here...he will have his own doctor, and you will have a GP.

Your options here are Cencerta and Ritalin. You can get the time release formulas here.

My insurance doesn't cover Concerta; I don't know if there is a list somewhere for this but not everything is covered.

There is a federal government list of medicines that must be covered. Anything on top would be at the discretion of the insurance company. You can probably guess how that discretion operates.

Re: Seeking advice regarding ADHD medications

Thank you all for your replies! I appreciate your time.

Is there a registry I could check with respect to which medications that by law are covered by the insurance companies? Concerta is similar to the medication my son uses, so I'm wondering if Biphentin falls into the same category.

Also, does anyone know whether I could find out how much the medication would cost in Switzerland on a monthly basis without insurance? Biphentin is quite pricey here in Canada, but we've been lucky enough to have insurance to pay for it.

Re: Seeking advice regarding ADHD medications

Hello all...
I am moving to La Tour de Peilz - Vevey area in two weeks with my family from USA. We are very concerned about finding a child psychologist to work with our son who has ADHD and possible Asperger's. I would be grateful for any recommendations of doctors that may specialize in the area of ADHD, Autism, and Asperger's.

Thank you so much,
Stephanie
