Wife control in the 21st century...

Amazing phenomenon I've seen a lot here in Switzerland, men who control their wives with major points being:

Not letting them have Facebook accounts &/or
e-mail accounts in some cases.

Always insisting on driving even in their partners own car (does your man let you drive him?) or not letting them have a car at all.

Does not allow (or gets really funny about) letting the wife out with her mates for a drink.

Of course I allow my other half a free reign, to do what she likes. I try to persuade her to open a Facebook account (but she doesn't want one). She drives me often in her car & I let her drive mine & she is encouraged to have her own social life with me helping if she has a friends night around our place (I disappear before the first guest comes)... ..but that's just the kind of guy I am.

I seriously thought this was common behaviour of the 19th century until I arrived here. I know it happens in other countries before any goes off on one, I experienced it twice in GB (in 20 years).

What's more, they don't give women as much money as men, they create stupid school hours so that women have to be very time-creative to even get out of the house during the day.

sounds quite reasonable i suppose, what with the womans brain being smaller coupled with their inability to drive, its a wonder we let them out of the house

Re: Wife control in the 21st century...

I've heard this too, from quite a few women. It's all about control. If the Hausfrau isn't pregnant, barefoot and chained to the stove in the kitchen, who knows what she might possibly be up to? Smiling, meeting friends or taking a break from domestic issues or, heaven forbid, meeting new people?

First we give them the vote and now Facebook and domestic freedom? This will all end in disaster. No more cooked meals at 12:00 sharp, shoes polished, shirts ironed and socks washed and matched. Swiss bureaucracy will grind to a halt, the birth rate plummet and then where will we all be...?

Females on Facebook? That's akin to admitting guilt of belonging to witchcraft and should best be dealt with by a series of ritual dunkings at the local pond. You know the deal, if they survive, they're a witch....

Well to an extent we all experience a little of that such is the nature of women because its one of the ways they gauge how much we love them but I'm seriously talking about seeing it often in this neck of the woods, real bluebeard-style stuff!

Re: Wife control in the 21st century...

I thought we are living in the 21st century?

There is no wonder plenty of ladies I know are choosing to remain single. The rare ones who trust/believe in their female counterparts are RARE...

Yes...I agree it has to do more with mentality than nationality.. this phenomenon has probably a lot to do with money/financial power...

It's as well uncomfortable to sense the word 'control' in a marriage...

A friend of my wife is staring at the distinct possibilty of getting divorced few scant months after she just got married for.....get this....having a few emails on Facebook with....a man.....(shock, horror, it's true!)....that she knew from secondary school......who lives in.....FINLAND! Oh, god. That's just right down the street! Hubby has gone round the twist and has 'made up his mind' and is in no state to listen to reason. Yes, he's Swiss, she isn't.

That's the point though. You wouldn't meet these women in the circles you move in as their chains are too short for them to get out of the house to meet you.

Men like this are indeed supported by the Swiss System - something I've coined SFS (Swiss Frau Syndrome), in which the social system is geared to keep women under control and in the home. Think: wash days, schooling starting age and schedule, and (until very recently) few quick meal options - the wife would have to buy fresh veg each day from the market to cook a meal for the hard working husband.

Man, your wife is so lucky that you allow her all these freedoms. I hope she shows you the appropriate level of gratitude.

To digress a bit from the main point, I've always thought that the Swiss education system is quite unfair and, with a talented pool of lawyers, unconstitutional through it's implementation.

Coming back to the main theme, I've yet to see such pattern of control in my circle of friends and their circles of friends I've known. Could be a generational thing as folks raised in the computer age tend to develop and promote separate social lives. It's healthy in a relationship - married or otherwise.
