3 weeks summer vacation for kids - what should working parents do?

Hello all,

I suppose many of you have been confronted by this and found solutions. For us it is going to be for the first time this summer, hence this post.

My son's garderie (creche) is closed for 3 weeks in July.
For us it is quite difficult to take vacations for all the 3 weeks. Our parents dont live in Europe, so calling them to come and take care of their grandson is an option, but preferably if there are no other options left (quitting our jobs is not an option).

Looking for a "maman de jour" on such a short notice, I wonder if we will find something.

What do the members of EF do when faced with such a situation.
Maybe there is a very simple solution. Thanks in advance for your comments.

High school kids should have the same holidays, so there should be no shortgage of local babysitters. Ask around or call the Red Cross for their babysitter list in your area.

You could each take 1 1 /2 weeks off work and spend some quailty time alone with your son. This is what many families do where both parents work.

The last couple of years we have used local babysitters and had our friends send their teenage girls over from Ireland for a holiday and paid babysitting. Now Kindergarten has a holiday day care during summer and the current kinderkrippe only closes for one week in the summer.
