No Maternity leave?

I've been told by some Swiss officials that I am not entitled to any maternity leave pay here as I have not worked 9 months prior to the birth of my child. Actually, I haven't worked at all in Switzerland at any point. I moved here directly before the birth with my Swiss husband. Now I have read that I may be entitled to payment from the "EO kasse" because I have worked at least 9 months in Europe (I worked over 2 years in Germany). Has anyone else been in this situation? Or anyone able to give me some advice regarding this topic? Thanks
LG Jennifer

Isn't maternity leave paid in lieu of salary? As you appear to earn nothing, then you're getting the correct amount of maternity pay already I'm missing something, right?

Re: No Maternity leave?

I worked over 2 years in Germany earning around 2000euros a month, but I haven't worked in Switzerland. I've heard that I may be able to get social assistance maternity pay based on the salary I had in Germany

You may qualify for unemployment of some sort, considering you worked in the EU, but you would have had to arrange that with Germany before you left (I believe), and that only lasts 3 months. Check with RAV for more info.

If it is as I believe, she already did by paying into the German system. There are agreements between Switzerland and EU countries.

Re: No Maternity leave?

If you were to qualify what leave would they give you? Typically maternity leave refers to the time taken off of work, right? Does the Kasse offer assistance to mothers who stay home?

Re: No Maternity leave?

If you are self employed and paying AHV and go on maternity leave do you get any basic maternity leave cover?

Re: No Maternity leave?

For unemployment pay, I thought you would qualify if you had worked 12 months in another EU country, provided that you worked at least 1 day (or maybe a week or somethign in Switzerland). Maybe it is the same for maternity.

The problem in this case is that the OP has not worked at all in Switzerland, then you can't really expect to get paid.

Otherwise all pregnant women in the EU would move to Sweden where the maternity leave is 12 months
